Parliament congratulates Malawi for beating Chad

Members of parliament on Monday paid tribute to the Malawi national football team the Flames for beating Chad and reach the next phase of the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

The development happened after the sports minister Enoch Chihana, who is also Member of Parliament for Rumphi central,  stood begging his fellow legislature in the national assembly to congratulate the national team for winning the match attracting jubilation and ululation in the house.

Chihana rose on a “point of order” after Speaker announced adjourning the House at the day.

“Mr. Speaker, Sir, the House is out of Order for not congratulating the Technical Panel and the Flames for beating Chad 2 – 0,” said Chihana.

The Speaker said “ we have a very humble but diplomatic Honourable Minister responsible for Sports.  That was a reminder; I think he wanted to be congratulated.”

Chimunthu Banda  then saluted the Flames for the victory :On behalf of the whole house through the ministry of sports, I would like to congratulate the Flames for beating Chad”

Two goals from John Banda and Joseph Kamwendo handed the Flames a deserved victory and ensured the team’s progress to the next round of the qualifiers.

Chad dented Flames hopes of back to back qualifications to the African Cup of Nations finals when they forced the Flames to a two all draw scoring both goals in the dying minutes.

Meanwhile, Sports minister  has  promised to make sure that each national team player be provided with a good Malawi housing shelter.

Currently, Flames players receive a bonus allowance of K30, 000.00 for a win, K15, 000.00 for a draw and nothing for a loss.
