Malawi’s music talent show E-Wallet resumes Aug 5

The E-Wallet, a show taken after the pop idols music competitions will resurface this year after a long break and this time with added flavuor.

The organizers Swift Media and Marketing broke the news to the media in Blantyre on Monday that auditions will commerce on the 5th of August in Mzuzu.

Chairman of Swift Media, Felix Njawala said they had been under pressure to revamp the show which won the hearts of many fun lovers but they failed to roll out because they wanted to come with bang.

Njawala: We are back to E-Wallet

“We have been under intense pressure to bring back the show but we could not just roll out, we needed to come out with a good product and a sustainable one.

“We could have rolled last year but the plan failed because of a disagreement with the terms of a sponsor that time,” said Njawala.

He also said that they had finalized all the home work and there is diversification from this year’s event because apart from pop music alone they have included dancing, and hip hop competitions hence the rebranding to E-Wallet Talent show.

Njawala who is also Blantyre Kabula legislator said they have sponsorship from the corporate world and some would be joining at a later stage. He therefore could not give in more details on how much would be invested in.

Rather he called for the support from Malawians and the media to promote the show thereby promoting the arts which he said is suffering.

According to his colleague Anthony Kafuwa, the competition is open to the ages of 16 and above with those between 16 and 17 providing written consent from parents or guardians.

Sunbird Hotels and Resort is one of the companies sponsoring and its Corporate Sales Executive, Ursula Banda pledged full commitment to the show that would be beamed on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and other Television stations in the country.

“We have offered the venues for the show and we are also looking at the categories that we can take up. We will work hand in hand with Swift Media that the initiative is success,” said Banda.

Artists that have emerged from the show previously include Angela Mizinga also known as Tigris in the music circles, Penjani Mdumuka, Bertha Kantchowa to mention but a few.
