Malawi envoy to UK applauds MAHECAS humanitarian support
The Malawi High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Bernard Sande has commended the Malawi Healthcare Support (MAHECAS) for the humanitarian support it renders to the people of Malawi.
Sande said this in Essex when he presided over fundraising dinner dance in aid of refurbishment of a Dental Unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi.
He said MAHECAS support will go a long way in improving dental care at a major referral hospital in Malawi. On this point he stressed the need to applaud the organisation’s selflessness commitment and strong sense of service to humanity.
The High Commissioner also said it is pleasing to note that MAHECAS, which is Malawi Diaspora-led charity working for the cause of Malawi, has made donations to various health facilities in Malawi in the form of medical drugs, supplies and equipment as well as health infrastructure, even in difficult circumstances.
Sande encouraged all other members of the Malawi Diaspora to fully support MAHECAS by making individual initiatives of making donations and raising funds from other sources.
He also told the gathering that President Joyce Banda launched the Presidential Initiative on Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood with the vision that “No(Malawian) woman should die while giving birth,” and, therefore, appealed to all members of the Malawi Diaspora, including MAHECAS, to prioritise this cause as one of the areas for support.
He then emphasised the need to Malawians in Diaspora to emulate the spirit and philosophy of MAHECAS by supporting Malawians in various spheres and or indeed, establish charities which could support other causes, such as adoption and education of orphans and other vulnerable children, saying Malawi has a big problem of orphans.
The High Commissioner, on behalf of Malawi government commended Lord David Steel, Patron of MAHECAS, Dr Adrian Brown, Chairperson of Maternity Worldwide, representatives of World Cargo International and all those who made special contributions to the fundraising event.
Chairperson of the Malawi Healthcare Support (MAHECAS) Dr Milika Matiti said the organisation was registered as a charity in 1996, and that it is run by a committee of 9 members who work tirelessly to achieve the goal.
Matiti indicated that, over years MAHECAS has helped different hospitals in Malawi both private and government.
She then thanked the Malawi High Commission and all well-wishers for supporting the organisation.
