Nnesa joins race for Malawi presidency on Tisintha Alliance

President of Mafunde, George Nnesa on Friday submitted his nomination papers to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)  in Blantyre to run for presidency in the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections but under the umbrella of Tisintha Alliance six-party coalition.

Tisintha Alliance has six parties which are, Malawi Forum for Unity and Development (Mafunde), New Republican Party (NRP), Republican Party (RP), Congress for National Unity (Conu), Malawi Democratic Party (MDP) and National Unity Party (NUP).

Nnesa has picked Reverend Sylvester Chibuka as his running mate. Chibuka is president of Conu.

Initially, the parties in the Tisintha Alliance were supposed to be eight, but the Alliance for Democracy (Aford) and New Labour Party (NLP) pulled out.

Nnesa said the alliance is a continuation of opposition parties which came together in 2011 when they were 14 but others, including the now governing People’s Party (PP) of President Joyce Banda, pulled out.

“It is time Malawi should move away from political dynasty,” said Nnesa who has been one of the vocal legislators in parliament on matters of governance, accountability and human rights.

He said Malawians need change to ensure they achieve posterity 50 years after independence.

“Economic morality in Malawi has gone to the dogs,” said Nnnesa who bemoaned a culture of corruption which has breed cashgate scandal bedevilling the Joyce Banda government.
