MBC TV journalist laid to rest
Thousands of Malawians on Sunday converged at Mthanyuwa village, TA Likoswe in Chiradzulu district to pay their last respects to yet another creative mind of Innocent Gandali.
Gandali was until his death on Friday afternoon senior cameraman at the Malawi national television station MBC TV.
His death comes barely two weeks after the station lost another quick-witted mind in Ken ‘7 years’ Siyabu who died in a car crash in Lilongwe.
According to family members, late Gandali died at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness. But he was diabetic.
In his eulogy, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Chief Executive Officer Bright Malopa described late Gandali as a humble but multitalented person.
“He was a young multitalented person, very dedicated at work who always fought for perfection. We have a lost a staff whose gap will be difficult to fill,” said Malopa.
Malopa said the late cameraman played a crucial role during the rebranding of programmes at the television station.
Village Head Woman Mthanyuwa described the death of Gandali as big loss to the village.
“The late was one person who made my village known, he was a role model to many youths in this village and his death has robbed the village its jewels,” she said.
At exactly 14:54 hours, Gandali’s casket was lowered into his final resting place leaving behind a wife and three children.
His wife, Glayds, is also a former MBC TV journalist. Always a charming personality, late Gandali was one of the longest serving employees at MBC TV having joined it, then Television Malawi (TVM), on 1st April 1999.
