Activists fault Chakwera over bloated entourage to South Africa
Rights activists, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has faulted President Lazarus Chakwera for abusing taxpayers’ money by taking a bloated entourage of 66 people to South Africa, saying this is a recipe to economic downfall.

HRDC chairperson, Gift Trapence said there is no justification in the decision for the President to have such a huge number of people on his entourage.
“We are calling on the President to exercise financial prudence. Taking with him 66 people on a trip is just too much,” said Trapence.
Out of the 66 people in the entourage, eight were Cabinet ministers.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Eisenhower Mkaka defended the 66 strong presidential entourage that accompanied Chakwera to South Africa last week.
“Each one of them had a role to play in South Africa. They did not just go to South Africa for nothing,” said Mkaka who was in the entourage.
He said the Chakwera administration is not shaken and will continue concentrating on important issues that can develop the country and its citizenry.
Social commentator Emily Mkamanga wrote in one of her columns:”Experience in Malawi has shown that the only time the citizenry seems to matter to the leadership is during the election period. Even then, they are just used as stepping stones into power in exchange of mostly empty promises. Once safely in power, people who had made it possible are taken as trouble makers who must not be listened to. Sometimes the same people are told that they know nothing.”
Chakwera and Tonse Alliance members sharply criticised former president Peter Mutharika for his usual tendency of having a bloated presidential entourage in foreign trips United Nations General Assembly.
Even donald trump sayenda ndi ndondocha. mcp mahule p. o. box chakwera
You ain’t seen nothing yet.More is to come Watch this space.Chili kwanzako chigwire nyanga ha ha haha haha
To err is human and to love is devine. The president is listening and next time things shall be sorted out 😊.
Chakwera does not inspire any hope at all. Zero policies, zero delivery. All he knows is arresting Lomwe people basi. Stupid man. Anthu 66 amakataniko ku John? Fwetseki!!
Shit happens and shit flies. Chartered plane full to the brim plus allowances for the whole lot plus hotel accommodation for ALL. Eish kubera amphawi
This Chakwera does think at all no wonder he so many advisers who doesn’t have brain. I don’t know if Mr of information is reading to him all this comments. I wrote through the same channel that there no point for him to come here to come to RSA there are still on lockdown and no President had ever visited RSA since lockdown he could have wait. He heard about the issue of Bushiri it’s when one of you asking this Chakwera to intervene. That’s why you didn’t receive any respect detain for 7 hours. Plus coming with this so called Mkaka. I suggested that you better zoom.
Ndipo ma President a ku Malawi kuno ndi nkhutu kumve, adyera, agontha mkutu. Just few months ago ndi omwewa amapanga critic Peter Mutharika kuti his government was too extravagant he’s doing the same. If a two day trip to RSA had 66 entourage Ndiye ku UNGA kudzapita 2,000 Ndithu, mafumu onse, nduna zawo, anyakwawa, otsekula kumanda adzawatenga kuti akaone ku United States of America
akulu apa ndiye mwakamba zowona zeni zeni. Malawi sangatukuke ndi atsogoleri adyera ndinso osamva za anthu ena.Ndipotu uku nkuyamba chabe
mbola mpaka 66?shaa chigwile nyangazo iwe uli mu mtengo
In this day and age, not even the president should have gone. Tell me one thing that could not have happened remotely apart from offering bushiri a lift?
A very good and factual observation by social commentator Emily Mkamanga,,,i entirely agree.
To be honest, that was just too much.
Mkaka, Chakwera and ur team take note that in 2025 people will have their final say on u all coz u don’t want to listen to what citizens of this country want. u are repeating the same mistakes that the old regime of Peter did
TO THE TONSE ALLIANCE NO BUTS NO IFS SIMPLY REDUCE YOUR BLOODY NUMBERS OR YOU ACCEPT YOU ARE LIKE THE BAD PEOPLE 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣 /DPP !!!!!!!
Mwatenga 66 people on a trip to South Africa, pompa yapa. Nanga ulendo waku UNGA next year mudzanyamula angati bwana?….the more things change the more they remain the same. I though we were done with such stories when we voted DPP out of power. Shame we are still singing the same song today, shame
Leadership is like an issue of Faith. It must not only be believed to be , but also must be strongly look to be so, vise versa. Our leadership is more hypocritical. No wonder we keep hitting low governance levels each passing day, going down further the bottom. It’s a shame and hurts in what awaits the generation after us.
Also funny how our president promised us good leadership and governance. And it’s surprising how he thought at the same time he would achieve that with people who hardly gets what leadership and upholding of governance is. I mean most of these are just the same guys who were behind the previous regime. They only moved out of ddp after causing enough trouble and that made them look people of integrity to the president?
We keep dancing to the politicians rhetorics and when our heads fall they rob the nation and keep laughing at a common Malawian as illiterate, uncivilized, ignorant , lacking wisdom and all. How can we be up there when you keep burning the only ladders to take us there while you warm yourself by the fire ??
Why does this government feel like the same old story?
But one day….
I have lost trust in this President. He’s totally acting contrary to his own promises made to the public.
One thing annoying is his attitude when admonished. He seems to be not moved from his unpopular decisions.
Tinabetsa vote basi.
Ministers defending that which cant be defended. Why dont they tell us how many people are on each of the foreign trips with the president? Can our president do the needful please? reduce the entourages as much as possible. some of these ministers are opportunists.
Mkaka says Chakwera and his government are not shaken by criticism from the citizens. Bwana Mkaka please keep on not being shaken for now but surely if you continue this arrogance you shall be shaken. Bingu started very well. When power crept into his head he became arrogant and we all know how he ended. Chakwera should not try to step in Bingu’s position by listening his tribal men like Mkaka. Bingu had 66% of votes in 2009. By 2011 the very same people who massively voted for him massively turned against him. That’s how Malawians respond when taken for granted.
If you thought Bingubwas rude but Nkaka is worse
Btw, Bingu never lost an election but rather Pitala.
Malawi will never change…………. All the presidential candidates have the same vendor (dobadoba) life styles. when we are hoping for the better, boom, another deaf team. the current regime is a team of investors, they invested to lead the government and now they are taking out their dividends, those who are talking alot are those who contributed more….
But how can all those people have a roll to play for such a short visit?
Will Malawi ever get fixed? Do our leaders read news papers? So far they are doing badly 65 delegates?Ask them what they did? More likely they made calls to their cousins to let them they are with the president. This is no laughing matter Malawi needs serious reflections for her future
Kodi mwati Mkaka yu ndi ndani? So arrogant. Shame. Tionana 2025. Koma mpaka 66 pa SA pompa. Nanga UNGA si mpaka 2.000.
Remember the Jimmy Cliff song “ the harder they come the harder they fall”.its only matter of time, ask those despicable bandits from DPP,those folks never thought they will be out in the wilderness, not only are they shell shocked, money they plundered disappearing right in front of their eyes, praise the Lord Almighty he will never abandon this country.
Reminds me of Animal Farm.
The pigs are now wearing trousers.
Politicians will never learn. It seems like when one becomes the president all the thinking ceases he hands it over to others to think for him.
Shopping is what Malawians like when they go outside especially the lazy civil servants left behind by the dpp thugs. However, that was a charted plane and had to be utilized to the maximum. The only people who got huge allowances are the ministers and PSs.
You may not be shaken right now but come 2025 you may see what has happened to Trump. We know you went there for shopping fancy suits and the likes ok shauri yako mimi minayenda yangu.Listen to what people advise you to adhere to Mr president.
🤐
Aaaaah koma ndipo. Nanenso I was shocked ti hear the South African Minister saying fans yi inadzadza ndege
The more things change the more they remain the same.
Chakwera just remember that Makani mukupangawa led to the previous leadership crumbling. The buck stops at you not Mkaka. When all is said and done people will blame you and not Mkaka.
It is laughable and unfortunate as insinuated by Mkaka that Tonse Alliance is not shaken when owners of the money (Tax Payers) are pointing out the evils done by those in power who are eating our money like tomatoes. Just less than half a year ago Chakwera was the champion and indeed in the forefront criticising DPP on the same issues he is doing now. His work ethics is suspect and questionable, not equal to a person who was once a preacher, no wonder today he is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Chipiliro Bushiri. The remedy to all the shortcomings perpetrated by Chakwera and crew will be responded in 2024. It would seem the trend now is to witness one term presidency just like the American scenario. All along those in the know said it that Chakwera was not a presidential material; now the message can literally be seen written on the walls all over the state residents. He is a waste of space and the much needed resources which apparently is in short supply. It is only time that will tell and not delivery.
Chakwera is probably a highly certified hypocrite. He was all over accusing APM of hiring planes and taking with him a bloated entourage and he is just doing so, The blunders that this fallen reverend has done are as follows:
Bwana Mkaka, DPP imateronsotu padzana paja. Koma dziko limasintha.
Mkaka knows nothing. And Chakwera himself is a very disappointing leader. Mr all talk no action
He will not change this country as he campaigned. His Presidency is likely going to be another waste of time just like APM’s
Our leaders do not learn from the past…and HRDC dont pretend here…mudatha mphamvu…if it could be DDP government pano mutayitanitsa mademo…God will judge u people for lack of objectivity… When handling national issues..
The more things change the more they remain the same.. and then mix Pastor on the throne all will be justified in the name of God. Amen.
We replaced one pile of shit with another just different smell.
Well done HRDC. By pointing out mistakes and wrong doings you are helping the Govt. Only a friend tells you the truth.
What I foresee is that this To9nse Alliance will end badly in 2025. No one will be willing to save it in any way ecept those that are feeling their bellies now. Mkaka has already shown his arrogance the same way Nicholas Dausi used to do. They thought we wouldn’t know this blotted entourage and now here we are.
Where is Nicholas Dausi ?
Muli ndi vuto you need to do a comparison with previous governments where even a pig could be accommodated in the entuorage
