According to General Manager for Sunbird Nkopola Lodge Benedict Mndala, the official launch will be spiced up by a host of activities including a demonstration of the new Sunbird Water-sports games and facilities, free boat rides and a special beachside lunch for invited guests.

“As hosts, we are all set for the occasion. We started creating the hype for the grand launch last week with a roadshow in Blantyre, where we showcased some of the state-of-the-art equipment for the Waters-ports. The response from customers and potential customers was just overwhelming and Saturday will be the climax,” said Mndala.

Mdala said some of the equipment and facilities to be officially launched include Jet Skis, Speed boats and aqua quads, party loungers, kayaks, wind surfing, water polo, banana boats and an 80-seater vessel.

Group Sales and Marketing Manager for the giant hospitality firm Temwa Kanjadza said the whole purpose of introducing the Water-sports games is to improve guests’ experience at the two Sunbird lake resorts of Nkopola and Livingstonia Beach.

“There has been an outcry over lack of fun activities at most holiday destinations in Malawi and the Sunbird Waters-ports games will create an inclusive water resort experience attractive to both local and international leisure travellers, who will in-turn boost the country’s tourism profile,” said Kanjadza.

Kanjadza also tipped conference organisers to seize the opportunity of ‘an unforgettable conference experience’ for their delegates through the Sunbird conference packages.

Guests Nkopola and Livingstonia already started enjoying some facilities in May this year and the official launch is primed to introduce more facilities and games at the two resorts, according to Kanjadza.

Sunbird Hotels and Resorts is Malawi’s leading hotel chain with eight properties including four city hotels in all three regions of the country, two beach resorts along Lake Malawi, an iconic mountain resort  in the former capital city of Zomba and a game lodge  in a big 5 wild life reserve, Majete.

Sunbird Watersports Games is a collection of water based sports facilities and activities that will be available at the hospitality giant’s two lakeside resorts, Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi and Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.
