ANP’s Sichinga dodging Capital Hotel K2m bill

Vocal founder of of a new party called African Nyasaland Party (ANP) Lawrence Sichinga  risks being dragged to ‘cleaners’ following his failure to settle accommodation and food bills amounting to K2.2 million at Sunbird Capital Hotel, Nyasa Times can reveal.

According to highly-placed inside sources at Capital Hotel, Sichinga an MBA graduate from UK’s De Montfort University and founder of Sandton business school in South Africa, has been lodging at the Sunbird Capital Hotel since December last year to mid February.

Documents sourced by Nyasa Timesindicate that Sichinga also accrued some bills at the hotel.

Sichinga: Sleeps, feast at Capital Hotel for free

“Sichinga booked himself in the presidential suite which is pegged at a rate of 280 dollars a day which he also used as an office. He kept promising that he would pay the money but after accumulating a huge amount he started dodging the hotel’s management. He could only sneak in late and leave early,” disclosed the source.

Nyasa Times understands that Capital Hotel management has since suspended two of its senior management staff for allowing Sichinga to lodge at the hotel without payment.

“Two senior managers are on suspension as the hotel thinks there was negligence on their part to allow someone to lodge at the hotel and be allowed to amass some a huge amount,” said the source.

Nyasa Times has learnt that Capital Hotel has since confiscated Sichinga’s state of the art Range Rover and has reported the matter to Lingadzi Police station.

Lingadzi police have confirmed the matter but refused to divulge more information, saying the issue is still under investigations.

“While we can confirm that a case has been reported to this police formation that one Mr. Sichinga is reportedly failing to pay for hotel accommodation we cannot comment much on the matter as the issue is still under investigations so as to ascertain how such a huge amount was accumulated,” said a senior officer from Lingadzi police who opted for anonymity.

Capital Hotel refused to give further details surrounding the matter saying they have reported the same to police.

When Sichinga was contacted on his mobile number  he hanged up after the subject was introduced.

When called again Sichinga did not pick up the phone and then switched it off.

Sichinga who has since been vacated from Capital Hotel has since relocated himself to the exquisite and equally expensive Kumbali lodge in the capital, Lilongwe.

Nyasa Times also has established that he also has failed to pay his chauffer and bodyguard a huge unspecified amount of money accrued within the same period.

It is however believed that the leader of the yet to be registered country’s 34th political party is facing bankruptcy.

Sichinga said when he came on the political scene that he wanted to revamp the country’s political system describing it as dirty and crooked and that his party ANP would be clean and give Malawians a  new sense of direction.
