    1. accountants are the most crooks – I’ve worked with most of them, they’re really crooks. Most of cashgate cases involved accounts personnel (e.g. accountant general’s office) and banks (esp FMB).
    2. I’m not convinced of the reasons for firing Mzikamanda, he was a fine guy at ACB and is a man of integrity. His firing was merely political so that APM can appoint people who will shield him and his Death, Plunder and Pilferage party from prosecution for their involvement in MHC housegate and the 92 bn kwacha that DPP used to buy vehicles for district governors and build casablanca.
    3.this job is for a lawyer, not an accountant, and not a banker.
    4. no amount of reshuffle at ACB will stop corrupt practices in MW. It’s the political will that matters. APM is a corrupt man, and yet people still voted for him. That’s where Malawi has fallen and will never resurrect economically under this man called APM. We must reshuffle the country’s leadership instead of reshuffling ACB. We must bring back JB without whom we would never have known the findings of Baker Tilly, the British Audit firm that JB invited to reveal the massive theft of public money in Malawi. The next step JB was going to take was tackle the 92 bn kwacha but she had to start with her own administration – what a wonderful mother of a nation. 38. Withdrawing money is not the problem. People can take out any amount of money they want. BUT it is the depositing of money that is crucial in catching thieves and money launderers.. THIS is where our banks fail us!!! In other countries anyone depositing say above a certain limit of money is automatically put on suspicion and is questioned on spot in the bank as to how he has got such an amount of cash. So FMB should have alerted the authorities when such large sums of money were deposited. This explains why some decided to keep such large sums of money in their houses for fear I think of being caught if they deposited the money in banks. I don’t know what are the Malawi banks regulations on deposit limits which will not raise any eyebrows at the banks.

51. I am disgusted by the comments directed at FMB. What these uneducated fools don’t realize is that if the authority (ministries and the cabinet) come to take money out from a bank, who do you complain to?? It is the same police service who you would complain to that was being bankrolled by politicians. Also, it is not FMB’s job to check every bank withdrawal; some big companies with accounts at FMB sometimes draw tens of millions of kwachas from accounts so it is not easy to pick up on somebody drawing mk 5 million as being suspiscious. Lawyers are not experts in finance, they are not experts on accounts and how books can be cooked. Lawyers come in later once the finance expert has presented his evidence to them, then lawyers can prosecute.

    My only worry is whether he is the right finance expert chosen if really what other people are saying about him during his tenure at FMB is true. FMB reminds me of the old Farmers Marketing Board later changed to ADMARC, yes those were the good old days!!!?

No. It seems to be a DPP trend to appoint such people to such investigative positions who know very well about the cashgate episode or know what really happened on cashgate. No South African University, let alone University of Stellenbosch offers BBA, or Bachelor of Business Administartion either at undergraduate level or postgradute level like Honours.     1. Lucas is from NKhatabay but has never been there. His mother was from South Africa, where he goes during holidays. His father was well to do and managed them from little ages. 65. So where was this so called “expert” when FMB was cashing out billions to Cashgate thieves? If he could not detect fraud right under his not so big nose, how do you expect him to do that from a distance? The audit by B tills already convincingly shows there was fraud and the individuals who perpetrated that, so what value will his replication of that effort going to do? APM is just shitting in our eyes in broad day light. The right candidate for this job would have been a lawyer with expertise in fraud prosecution such as J Banda, because what remains is to successfully prosecute the cashgate thiefs.     2. Does anybody understand the role of banks in Anti Money Laundering as well as the powers they have versus the role of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Police? You can legally walk into the bank and tell the teller that you are withdrawing money from ilicit activities and the bank has no powers to stop you nor is it their duty to do so. What they must do is report the suspicious transaction to FIU who rogether with the police and ACB have the powers to investigate, freeze accounts and sieze assets, so perhaps you should ask why these two institutions were doing with the reports that the banks lawfully filed everyday. If banks are penalised by RBM for collecting money late why do you think not one bank has been fined for cashgate…they didnt break any laws!
