Archbishop Msusa ordains Mpingu to priesthood in Zomba

The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Most Rev. Thomas Luke Msusa is Saturday oradining Deacon Santos Mpingu of Zomba Diocese to priesthood at Zomba Cathedral o.

The Archbishop, who is also the Metropolitan for Chikwawa, Mangochi and Zomba Dioceses goes to Zomba Diocese in his official capacity (as Metropolitan Bishop), since until now the Pontiff in Vatican has not yet appointed one to be the Bishop of Zomba to preside over the function.

According to Fr. Bernard Chipole, Director of Liturgy respectively,  said Deacon Santos, who will be the first priest coming from the out-station of Namitembo  Parish called Changalume, was born on 25th August 1985 and hails from Chisutu Village TA Mlumbe in Zomba District.

He was ordained deacon on 24th May 2013 at Zomba Cathedral. With his motto “ Never flag in zeal,” (Rom. 12:11) the Deacon advises the youth in the country to be always attentive to the call of God and humble themselves by doing His will.

Zomba Diocese, with currently 49 Diocesan Catholic Priests, comprises of 15 parishes and five working institutions for the diocesan Clergy. With over 276 000 Catholics in the diocese the ratio for a priest to laity  does not tally.

This is the case because only 35 Catholic Priests are active in pastoral services while the rest are abroad or serving in national institutions, such as Catholic University, Catholic Secretariat and Malawi Defence Force.
