He says per its Cooperation Agreement with the Government of Malawi (GoM), funding is again to the agreed themes of: Sustainable Economic Development (including renewable energy); Civic Society & Governance; Health; and Education.

The Call for Funding sets out the specifics around the GoM priorities for this round.

“We have indicated that, after discussion with the GoM, we particularly welcome applications under: the economic development strand; the civic governance strand; Diaspora led projects; and innovative projects, when accompanied by appropriate M&E, to ensure that lessons can be learned and shared,” says Masangano.

“We have wrapped up the monies allocated for the successor to the Malawi Renewable Energy Acceleration project (MREAP) within this funding round, so that it is competitively tendered, and encouraging innovative RE proposals that cross the 4 strands too.”
