The donation, according to the club’s vice general secretary Christopher Kananji is part of a consignment of 500 footballs and other items the club received from its Japanese sponsors Be Forward Company Limited, who are dealers in second hand vehicles.

“We received a consignment of 500 footballs and other branded items from our sponsors Be Forward Company Limited meant for distribution to schools in Malawi. Most schools in Blantyre have benefited and we have now started covering Lilongwe based primary schools before proceeding to other selected schools in the country,” said Kananji.

On why they are targeting primary schools, the Wanderers vice GS said: “Primary schools offer the nursery for football development and the players we are using at Wanderers launched their soccer careers at primary school. We are giving back to the schools and at the same time promoting the Be Forward brand.

“The primary pupils are future players for Be Forward Wanderers FC and future customers for Be Forward Company,” he said.

Headmistress for Chisambi Primary School Sellina Mbewe, whose school received four footballs and four pumps pump expressed delight with the gift.

“This is a happy moment for our school. All the footballs we had got damaged and these brand new balls will go a long way in promoting sports at our school. We participate in competitions like Limbe Leaf Trophy and Mayor’s Trophy and we need such equipment to thoroughly prepare for such competitions apart from pupils’ recreation,” said Mbewe.

Chisambi Primary, which is run by Malawi government has 1,845 pupils with 31 teachers- three male and 28 female and is located in the township of Kawale II in Lilongwe.

After visiting Chisambi, the contingent from Mighty Be Forward FC made a similar donation at Kawale Primary School, which has an enrolment of 2,200 pupils and 46 teachers (Two male and 44 female).

The school’s head teacher Doreen Harawa could also not hide her excitement with the gesture from one of the country’s football powerhouses.

“We are very thankful to Be Forward Wanderers Football Club and their sponsors for this wonderful gift and we hope this is just the beginning of a good relationship between our school and Be Forward.

Sports, especially football is very vital for the pupils. After attending their classes, pupils need to refresh their minds by participating in sporting activities. Sporting activities also keep pupils away from bad habits and encourage them to attend classes since they know that after classes they will participate in sports,” said Harawa flanked by her deputy Dyson Faifi.
