Bingu Tigresses ace fires warning at Eagles ahead of GOtv netball launch
Bingu Tigresses goalkeeper Lauren ‘China’ Ngwira has vowed to accelerate gear in Saturday’s GOtv Netball Champions League opener against Blue Eagles Sisters to spice up her 20th birthday on the same day.
Tigresses will rock horns with the Eagles Sisters in their early kick-off encounter at 10pm before the second assignment at College of Medicine against Civonets.
In an interview with Nyasa Times, the young and upcoming Malawi Queens player said she will do all what it takes to secure
victory in both matches to have a fantastic birthday.
“Saturday is my big day because l will be celebrating my birthday, so all l want is victory in all our matches against Blue
Eagles and Civonets,” said the towering netball player.
She said Tigresses are going through a great run of form and hoped that she could end the GOtv league with the silverware in her hands.
The Netball Champions League will attract top five netball teams from the country- Escom Sisters, Bingu Tigresses, MTL Queens, Civonets and Blue Eagles Sisters, who will play in a round robin format on home and away basis. The team with the highest number of points will automatically win the championship.
The top team will walk away with K1 million and a locally made wooden trophy with first runners-up getting K500,000 and second runners-up pocketing K400,000. Teams on positions four and five will cart home K300,000 and K200,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, MTL Queens have been boosted with the availability of their vast experienced shooter Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya, who is on a two months holiday from Tanzania. She will feature for the champions League.
The presence of former Malawi Queens’s evergreen shooter is likely to inspire MTL youngsters like Memory Mwazani, Rihana Mtenje, Pilirani Msukwa, Thandi Galeta and Joana Kachilika.
