Bingu Tigresses beat MTL Queens

Bingu Tigresses emerged serious challengers of Escom Sisters in the OG Issa Southern Netball League as they defeated MTL Queens 43-37- in a thrilling encounter at Blantyre Youth Centre in Blantyre on Saturday.

MTL Queens outclassed Tigresses in the first two quarters with the likes of Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya in top form and Joana Kachilika showing great skills.

Tigresses, who welcome back their vast experienced shooter Linda Magombo from a four years long break lacked composer and  speed in the first two quarters of the match.

MTL were too strong on the centre where youngster Thandi Mwale and Sylvia Mtetemera Malenga enjoyed ball possession feeding Waya in front.

However, knowing a loss would have automatically left Escom Sisters as 2011-2012 Champions; Tigresses turned the match that looked gone into an absolute nail-biter.

The two sides were tied as they went into the last quarter.

Players like Sindi ‘Sniper’ Simutowe, Linda Magombo, veteran coach-player Peace Kalua and Beatrice Mpinganjira-Kadango pressurized the Queens and roared to a narrow lead hit two shots in succession to establish a final lead of the match which they defended as well to win and add more pressure on Escom Sisters.

Escom Sisters are leading the log table with 45 points while Tigresses are chasing them closely with 42 points.

However, a win against Escom Sisters in their last game will mean Tigresses being crowned as champions as they have a better goal aggregate.
