Blantyre City Council ready to battle cholera

One person has tested negative for cholera in Blantyre after he was rushed to hospital following cholera symptoms.

The rainy season is always associated with high cases of cholera in Blantyre and other parts in the country, especially urban areas.

Blantyre District Council officials say they are to ready to deal with cholera outbreaks in the city.

Penjani Chunda, Blantyre District environmental Health Officer said the suspected cholera case tested negative but insisted authorities remain alert as cholera is highly reported in the rainy season.

Chunda has said health personnel have been tasked to distribute chlorine across areas in the city for people to treat water.

He has also challenged people to adhere to hygienic practices so as to prevent water borne diseases such as cholera.
