Blue Eagles feel sidelined on tournaments

Blue Eagles FC says it feels sidelined by organizers of off-season soccer tournaments, who have only been involving other Lilongwe based teams, leaving out the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side.

The Area 30 based outfit has not taken part in any of the off-season soccer tournaments organised in Lilongwe despite being one of the city’s heavyweights.

Teams like Epac FC, Civo United, which have been finishing below the cops on the TNM Super League log table have had opportunities to partake in the pre-season tournaments including the recent Lilongwe High 4 Soccer Bonanza, which involved Silver Strikers, Civo, Kamuzu Barracks and Epac.

Commenting on the situation, Blue Eagles team manager Gabriel Chirwa said his team has always been ready to take part in such tournaments but nobody amongst the organizers has taken interest to contact the side.

“We are amongst the best teams in central region but whenever there are off-season soccer tournaments in Lilongwe, we are not included. We are not surprised because one of the people, who have been involved in
the organization of the tournaments Mr Japhet Majekete owes our club K2.5 million.

“He knows if he involves us, we will ask for our money from the Fam Cup, which he has been failing to pay,” said Chirwa.

Majekete, who has been involved in fresh controversy after failing to pay the four teams that took part in the High Four Soccer Bonanza could not be reached for his comment as his mobile phone has been off for some days.
