Body-in-bag ‘killer’ identified, located in England: Updated

A boyfriend to Malawian woman Rudo Pretty Mawera murdered and left in a suitcase by a roadside in Dublin, Ireland has been identified as Jasper Jason Dube, a Zimbabwean who is now located in England   after being suspected of killing the 26-year-old student.

Nyasa Times investigations with the help of some Irish journalists, learnt that man use a ferry on Sunday morning to cross over to England.

He had no personal effects.

Police have contacted the suspects brother in England.

Apparently, the man had lived in England before moving to Ireland. He also had another relationship with a Zimbabwean girl apart from the affair with the murder victim.

Rudo Mawera: She was either strangled or suffocated.

One of Malawian girl who was in touch with late Mawera a day before she was murdered said the victim had a row with the man at an address near where her body was found.

“They had a row over money issue. Rudo [lent] the man some money, a substantial amount,  but he only paid 50 Euros which irked her. She had been angry with that and confronted the man over the debt,  perhaps the row escalated,” said a close source.

Detectives have developed a theory that  she had been suffocated.

Ireland police, well known as Gardaí, probing the death said Mawere was found  fully clothed but her head was covered with a bin bag and a postmortem confirmed that she had died of asphyxiation.

The Irish Examiner said Mawere, who was a Catholic, had advertised that she worked as a Sunday school teacher in Malawi and had worked as an au pair while in Ireland, but that the host family had moved to Wales.

The woman is said to have deep roots in Zimbabwe  where one parent came from Masvingo but had used a Malawian passport to travel to the United Kingdom. Her sister Mary lives in Lilongwe.

She was a human resources development student at the BCT Institute on Dublin’s Parnell Square and, in addition to au pair work, is also believed to have worked at St Luke’s Hospital.

The college spokesman said she was “an excellent student, very quiet and we are gobsmacked.”

Nearly eight years ago, the remains of another Malawian woman, Paiche Unyolo Onyemaechi,  25 was found wrapped in a plastic bag near a stream in  Ireland.

Paiche was the daughter of the Malawian chief justice, Leonard Unyolo. Her killer has never been identified todate.
