Bogus Malawian NGO director turns job seekers into sex partners: Jailed 7 years
A Malawian man masquerading as director of a non-existent organisation has been handed seven years of jail term by the court for indecently assaulting young women job seekers.
The 54-year-old man is reported to have been going around the country deceiving young jobless women that he would offer them employment at his organisation only to end up turning them into his illegitimate wives and sex partners.
Police have identified the man as Yusufu Useni Nkhoma from Yusufu village in the area of Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota District.
The trickster used to cheat the desperate women job seekers that he was director of Lake Site Referendum Family Alliance which provided charitable services to the elderly, widows, orphans and other vulnerable people based in Nkhotakota.
Nkhotakota Police Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino said the issue came to light on September 3, this year when Nkhoma, in his routine mission, approached 22-year-old Laina Malunga at her shop in Area 36, Lilongwe.
The impostor introduced himself to the lady and promised to recruit her as secretary of the organisation and after sweet-talking her, he immediately managed to take her to Nkhotakota.
However, upon reaching his home, Malunga was surprised to hear Nkhoma introducing her to his children as his wife.
The lady spent a night at Nkhoma’s house but when she reminded him of the promised job the following day the man told Malunga that she needed to first undergo medical examination which was a prerequisite.
“The lady agreed but he further told her that according to his company rules, he was to conduct the examination process. He then forced her to expose her private parts and armpits for him to conduct the examination,” explained Lubrino.
And on September 8, the police publicist said the trickster also demanded to conduct the compulsory medical examination but she refused and run away before reporting the matter to Village Headman Tambala.
“After being informed about the incident, members of the community apprehended the man and handed him to Nkhotakota Police Station where he was charged with indecent assault,” Lubrino said.
It was, however, not yet established as to how many young women the man had so far turned into his sex objects through this crooked manner.
And when he appeared in court the following day, the Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate slapped him with a seven-year jail term.
