Bring on Wanderers, says Bullets coach: Standard Bank Cup

Big Bullets coach Eddington Ng’onamo  is relishing the task of guiding his club to pip sworn-rivals Mighty Wanderers in the Standard Bank Cup semi-finals slated for this weekend in the capital Lilongwe.

Ng’onamo said after his side booked their slot in the semi-finals on Sunday with a 1-0 goal aggregate win over EPAC FC, the Peoples Team were geared to reach another finals and fight for  a double.

Mind-games

The Bullets coach issued a defiant message aimed at Wanderers, saying: “Bring it on!”

“At this stage, we will have to stamp our authority that we are Malawi’s football kings. We will focus on the task ahead and be determined,” he said.

But Wanderers assistant coach Albert ‘Kika’ Mpinganjira fired a defiant message to Bullets, saying “it is not mission impossible.”

Mpinganjira is equally convinced his side can claim the silverware and boot out their rivals.

“It will be nice to reach the finals via Bullets route.  We have all the qualities you need to win the cup,” said Mpinganjira.

The Nomads assistant coach said  he is “positive and very confident” that Wanderers will progress to the finals.

Venue for semis

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced that all Standard Bank Semi-final games will be played this weekend at the Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

FAM disclosed that the clash of titans- Bullets FC and Wanderers – on Saturday September 29 will be at Silver Stadium.

Then Sunday, the same venue will also host another mouth watering fixture- a Lilongwe derby  -between Civo United and Silver Strikers.

Gate charges up

The statement further reveals that the gate charges have been hiked.

Supporters of both clubs are supposed to dig deeper into their pocket as open stands tickets will cost  K500.00 while covered stands is going at K2,000.00.

Meanwhile, FAM says it is working on logistics and security measures.

“We are now putting logistics in place and security will be high on the agenda during the preparatory meetings this week,” said FAM CEO Suzgo Nyirenda.–(Additional reporting by Green Muheya, Nyasa Times)
