Bushiri’s election prophecies dominates social media, stirs controversy

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s prophecies on elections in Malawi continue to go viral on social media, at the same time, stirring controversy in the general public.

The Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church leader made several prophecies on the elections even before tripartite election May 20 2019.

His first prophecy before the May 20 2019 was that he was seeing the ruling party winning the elections, but the opposition will not accept and there will be a wave of demonstrations.

He, again, a week before the Constitution Court ruling on Monday 3 February, said that he is seeing an appeal.

A day before the ruling, he prophesized that he is seeing the opposition winning the case.

These series of prophecies have seen social media going berserk with them—to the point of attracting controversies.

There is a group that are seeing nothing wrong with the prophecies; but just a manifestation of God’s wish. The other group is arguing that Bushiri is just being clever about it, mostly using his analytic skills which can’t be prophecy.

Bushiri himself said on Sunday that God showed him so many things regarding the future of Malawi but he didn’t want to divulge all of them because of the tense political situation in Malawi.

In defense of Bushiri, writing on his social media, Madengessa Machette said: “That what we call maturity, a prophet should be able to control the spirit and even himself. Check the atmosphere and also what will be the consequences. Not every prophecy need to be revealed in or on time.”

  1. “I prophesy that the sun will rise from the east and set to the west tomorrow ” Does that make me a prophet? This guy just predicted the obvious. If and when he gets it wrong, no one even talks about it and if and when he gets it right, we all go crazy! Even if gets it partly right, we all ignore the wrong bits and focus on the bits that he got right. Don’t forget he prophesied that that the ruling would be last week( not this week), is anyone talking about that? No.
    However, if some people sleep peacefully at night by believing that he’s a man of God and prophet, that’s fine by me. If people want to give him their hard earned money in exchange for a ‘miracle’, that’s fine by me too.

    We all can’t be clever !!!! Someone has to be a victim of his trickery.

    1. Remember the 2014 election? He prophesied that there would be a re-run after Joyce Banda lost( that’s because some commentators we’re saying so and JB herself said so) He got it completely wrong and that was the end of the story. No one ever talked about the prophesy again

  2. How to know a true prophet of God?> It’s when what he prophesies comes to pass. Looking at the prophecies Bushiri made before or after election up to now after court ruling comes to pass as he promised. He is a true prophet of God being used by God.

  3. A prophecy its of no use if you cant share and warn the people way before it happens. If we read our Bibles prophets would warn kings and tell them what was going to happen. We never hear a prophet claiming that I saw it happen but was not ready to share with the kings because the situation was not right.

But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them to the market place to the authorities.” This is a very interesting true story of the Bible which describes how ‘ a spirit of divination’ possesses supernatural knowledge about other people as well as saying ‘ACCURATE PREDICTIONS’ of future events (also known as fortune telling). This slave girl had such a spirit of divination and by revealing secrets about people as well as accurately predicting future events, made her masters multimillionaires. When the girl saw Paul and Silas she accurately revealed their mission, very accurately described them as servants of the MOST HIGH GOD. Yet this spirit was not from God and when Paul commanded it to come out of her, that was the end of her ability to predict future events or have knowledge of secrets of other people. My point is, not every accurate prediction of future events comes from God. So let’s follow the advice of 1 John 4 vs 1 “Beloved do not believe every spirit, BUT TEST THE SPIRITS whether they are of GOD, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” That’s exactly what Apostle Paul did. He tested the spirit that was so accurately describing their mission and anointing. Watch out, we are living in dangerous times!

    1. Very true. He said “we have just won an election in Malawi”. Everyone knows that Bushiri is a DPP sympathiser and he meant DPP won the case. The so-called February 2 prophesy is a sham using clever technology. Why was it not released say on the 3rd just before the courts decision? Conman indeed.

      1. He actually got the timing WRONG, he said the ruling would be last week(not this week). That’s coz we all expected it last week until it was announced that it would be Monday this week. But no one is talking about that.

I will never allow the opposition rule this country. He said that three times during the campaign period. Even before the court proceedings there was a lot of debate about whether you can appeal against a concourt ruling that should have made any thinking people realize that there will be appeals. As for the opposition wining, the facts were already made bare through the live coverage. Please there is one thing about the mystery of prophecy. God reveals to the world through his prophets what the human mind cannot discern on its own. Sometimes he does this to individuals through dreams and vision. Now what is it that Bushiri said that even the non exposed masses could not have deduced on their own. Remember wisdom is not the privilege of the prophets only.

  13. There is no prophecy is Bushiri’s statements. I pedicted exactly the same before Malawi elections. I also predicated on the day Trump was elected that he will be impeached but he would not be removed from office. I am a non believer and I dont believe there is God and yet I got it all correct.
    It is not being a person of God it is purely assessing what is going on. Some of it pure chance.

But now his prophecy has come to pass, people in Malawi still say he just guessed it.   18. Prophecies made a day or week before an event can be attributed to the happenings before the event. Most of the people knew what the outcome of the case would be. It really never required prophesying. Similarly, most people knew long the ruling that APM would appeal; this being the order of things in trials.
    These prophets are clever, you know.
