Chakaka Nyirenda faces contempt of court charges over DCs transfers

Attorney general Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda faces contempt of court charges for government failure to stop the transfer of some district commissioners
Officials from Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) say they will file the contempt charges because of the government’s failure to uphold a Supreme Court of Appeal order on the transfer and redeployment of some district commissioners and chief executive officers.

AG Chakaka Nyirenda
MALGA chief executive officer, Hadrod Mkandawire’s sentiments follow a statement by the Attorney General Chakaka Nyirenda who said the stay order is not applicable to current circumstances.
Nyirenda is quoted saying, “this is because the order was given after the government had already executed the DCs and CEOs transfers and redeployments.”
But Mkandawire said: ,“Basically we would not be able to comment on the AG’s statement nevertheless, we will observe this week, if there will no compliance we will proceed with contempt proceedings.”
