Chakwera blasts Malawi Electoral Commission for ‘robbery of 2019 elections’

The presidential flag-bearer of Malawi’s united opposition, under the banner of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Dr Lazarus Chakwera  on Wednesday blasted Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) led by its embattled chairperson Jane Ansah when he presented nomination papers to run in the fresh elections, saying Malawi has survived robbery of 2019 elections under its management.

Chakwera: We have a date with destiny
Several smaller parties have joined the pair’s alliance, including the former president Joyce Banda’s Peoples Party. Banda was at the nomination accompanied by her husband retired Chief Justice Richard Banda (pictured)

Chakwera, who has joined up with the country’s enstranged vice-president Saulos Chilina of UTM Party as  his running mate, criticed the current cohorts of MEC commissioners for the way they misamanged the nullififed elections that saw President Peter Mutharika controversially returned to office.

He said Malawi has  “a date with destiny” in the fresh elections.

“It is a destiny that has survived the acrimony of the 2019  campaign and the robbery of the 2019 elections. It is a destiny that has survived  the lawlessness of this Malawi Electoral Commission,” said Chakwera as Ansah together with her commissioners looked unbothered.

He said for 26 years, Malawi’s democracy has been hijacked by “cheats whose hold on  power is built on fraudulent elections, violent campaigns, tribal voting, and minority  rule”

Chakwera,a former charismatic preacher,  said : “God has given us this fresh election to restore every voter’s power to bring  change and every voter’s right to enjoy its fruits. That is destiny.”

He said  “many dark forces” have laboured to prevent th e fresh election but they have failed.

“Our destiny is a new Malawi that benefits everyone.”

The opposition alliance is comprised of nine political parties, including People’s Party of the country’s ex-president, Joyce Banda (2012-2014). The alliance’s other parties include the Freedom Party, Malawi Forum for Unity and Development (Mafunde), People’s Progressive Movement (PPM), Umodzi Party, Alliance for Democracy (Aford) and People’s Transformation (Petra).

  1. Joyce banda is fresh blood to Malawi. This is the leader we have all been waiting for, a Mayi pachiwongolero

    1. Koma akanapitilila kukhala ndi DPP kuti aziphanawo anthu powaotcha mmanyumba awo? Pako….

  2. Chakwela sadziwa ndale ndipo kukhala torchebearer ndiye koluzitsa Ambili aliwosweka mtima ndikawafunsa akuti kulibwino asakavote KUDANA NDI CHAKWELA/MCP

    1. Malawians don’t want Politicians, we need States Men, amene ukuwafusawo akalowa okha povota ndipo ambiriso akavotaso okhaso, auze anthu akowo kagwele uko!

  3. I have seen comments down mine complaining that Chakwera is now not a Pastor,, hahahaa let not you ignorant be seen by even the kids at Nursery school please! Why today you are calling him a Pastor? Because he has said what is true?
Now I know how ignorant you Cadets are!
Chakwera is a man of God and he will be,no matter what you may call him. I 100% support what he said, because my eyes saw the same what Chakwera has seen in this MEC, Chakwera was not blasting at MEC but the Spirit of DPP in MEC! You see when we say Chakwera is a Man of God? He can see what you can not see! Abulutu achabe inu! Kikkkkkk, mukazidziwila kuti koma Ntchito kukhala afisi basi kumagonana ndi ti ana.

  4. Kuwani time wasters kafuneni ntchito our President does not want NYASI zanuzo. Kuno ku state house ntchito kulibe takwana time wasters bustard.

  5. Very shameful indeed as a Pastor he would not have made such a completely empty speech. Analysis for yesterday’s candidates Mbakuwaku carried the day in terms of wise speech, why?
    1. He wished MEC well and encouraged them that their shortfalls in last elections are stepping stone towards a successful elections come 2nd July 2020.
    2. With the shortfalls noted by the concourt have made MEC even stronger than before.
    3. That as Malawi irrespective of party affiliations we are all one and need to foster peace and tranquility for the common good of motherland malawi.
This is just a sample of what Mbakuwaku has said. So unlike Chakwera who often times amadzimva ngati kuti ndiwanzeru, wotchuka, kaya chani kaya nothing good he has offered. If he was wise enough he would not have rendered his nomination papers to the same MEC he is castigating this only shows there something lacking in him. Secondly mtsogoleri usamakhale emotional. That is a big event why being emotional instead of showing a smiling face while ukutsitsa mfundo? And finally kungopereka nomination papers to MEC has showed the weakness of their leadership. That what you condemn, you do not trust! If rendered nominations then Lazarus and Saulos should stop cheating malawians that they have no trust in MEC. A big problem here???????

  6. Abusa mwayamba kudya mkazi wamwini mwini wake alipo banja sinathe. A concourt anapeleka mkazi mwatengayi kwa apm. Mtima wanji umenewo abusa mhu, mkazi sali wanu kumutengela ku nyanja?

    1. You think that ndi bwino zimene wapanga peter upha anthu ???????????????????

  7. Malawians have already seen the tonse alliance top leaders fail before. In various capacities under Bingu and Joyce leadership. These tonse cannot perform to the standards, let apm continue to rule. I am voting dpp again

  8. MCP was joined by Abiti Kazhigeti and Mphwiyo, the engine of cashgate. This ex-reverend Lezala Nyolonyo demonstrates that he did not receive a calling to his former job of leading the flock and only sought a living for himself. So full of vulgar language uttered through a fake-accent acquired after a short stint at an unaccredited American Bible School. Happy to go around in borrowed robes.

  9. Calling a spade a spade. These devils (MEC), their days are numbered and they shall die a horrible death sooner or later.

  10. Sir, you sounded so so bitter and very power hungry….As a Reverend pastor, you know pretty well that whom the Lord has blessed no one can curse. For sure you know 100% that when Jesus says yes no one can say no. The July 2 election shall vindicate God’s will. May God’s appointed Leader rule us and wishing you grand success. But if God will not give you the mantle this time around, accept God’s will.Amen

    1. Chakwela is not serving God, he is now serving the devil and the world. See the people he is associating with, darkness, darkness and you can not see light in him any more.

      1. Kwaaaaaaaa kwaaaa Kwa kwaaaaaaaa, utsegula mmimba simunati. Daud wavutaso nayeso, kulowa Ku NRB kuvulaza your secrets!
