Chakwera refuses to tackle Mutharika’s Sona speech: Justifies MCP exodus in Parliament
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera – who sworn in to start his second term as a member of Parliament (MP) and possibly Leader of Opposition, depending on outcome of the election petition case in the Constitutional Court – has said he will not respond to President Peter Mutharika’s state of the nation address as is the tradition.
At a news conference on Saturday in Lilongwe, Chakwera said he would not respond to the Sona because Mutharika is an illegitimate president.
“I cannot respond to what an illegitimate president says,” said Chakwera, who alongside UTM Party president Saulos Chilima, is contesting the results of the May 21 presidential election, citing irregularities.
The two have dragged Mutharika and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to Court over what they say manipulation of presidential results.
Chakwera backed the decision by MCP members of parliament who booed and boycotted the Sona.
“They did this to express the will of most Malawians who took to the streets in protest the day before to express their rejection of Mutharika’s presumption to be president despite overwhelming evidence that he occupies that office through fraud,” Chakwera told the media.
Members of Parliament according to Chakwera represent the people, and so it is proper that the people’s representatives stood with their constituents in this way.
Chakwera, however, condemned violence which followed the civil society activists organized peaceful protests.
“This was done by a few misguided individuals who do not represent our cause of peace and justice in spirit or deed,” said Chakwera.
He also condemned the police who fired teargas at peaceful people who had gone to the High Court on Friday to hear the verdict of the preliminary objections of the high profile election case.

What Chakwera and his stupid MPs are saying is that they are all illegitimate members of Parliament. To prove their stupidity just ask them, including Chakwera himself, if they were sworn in as MPs. Ask them if the elections that declared them MPs were legitimate. Ask them if the elections were held on 21 May 2019 alongside presidential elections. Ask them the name of the MEC chairperson who declared them winners. Is that not absurd that the MCP MPs are attending parliament despite being illegitimate. These MCP MPs should not be allowed to get any allowances from parliament because they are illegitimate. Since the speaker is an MCP MP is she not illegitimate as well? Should parliament be headed by an illegitimate speaker? MCP is treading on dangerous ground.

I respect you man of God Dr. L. Chakwera. There is no bad report I heard about you the time you served God in his kingdom as a pastor. However, I am worried now and very much concerned with our currernt behavior sir. It looks like we have lost the spiritual plot. If we listen to your speeches we notice anger, bitterness, frustration and hatred in you. That is the reason others are saying our behaviour is not different from a warlord. No wonder others are loosing interest in us. It looks like we have forgotten that God fights our battles while we are still. We have forgotten that we need to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God so that in due time he can lift us up. Lets not forget promotion does not come from the east or from the west but from God. I could have loved if we show the world that we are in the world but not of the world by doing our politics differently. Why are we using our natural strength to attain power sir? Why not allowing the courts to determine the justice of our case while praying and trusting God that he will interveve and turn things around for our good? What are we going to lose if we respond to Peters sona? Are we going to lose our identity? What can we lose if we listen to Sona without moving out of parliament? By boycotting we are sideling God and trying to to attain our goals by our own strength? Are we going to die if we do so? How do we teach the fallen world that we are from another kingdom when our way of doing politics is not different from the so called illegitimate president sir? How will people who do not trust our God come to the knowledge of him when our arguments are ungodly full of bitterness and anger? Do we think that God can’t fight for us because we are quite waiting for the determination of the case in court? Lets not forget that where the arm of flesh is involved, God is not involved. Our anger, bittetness and frustration do not display the character of God we confess. We can learn from Moses. God meant him to enter the promised land but due to anger he failed. God may grant us justice. Lets cool down and come down from the drivers seat so that God can be incharge. If not our prayers and fasting will be waisted. Chakwera has shown that he is a bad leader. He is encouraging and arranging violent actions – chasing people from the Southern region , breaking property etc. when his party MCP is the most tribalistic party in Malawi. MCP’s survival since Kamuzu lost power has been based on the central region always voting for MCP. Our foolish analysts never mention this.
WHO IS HE by the way. Not yet leader of opposition. Who asked him to comment? If he does not then Malawi will sink? Zopusa basi? Why do you give credit when it is not due!!!!. He will lose also as President of MCP.
Illegitimate suggests “not legally authorized”. This is true of Chakwera. He declared himself President of Malawi even before vote counting had completed. He is thus a would be “Illegitimate President”. At this stage APM would be an illegitimate president if the courts annulled/invalidated the elections. As is, APM is legally the president of Malawi.
In my uneducated/backward/primitive mind, I have seen no evidence to suggest that APM did not win the election. Those disputing the elections appear to be doing so over technicalities and procedure (use of correction fluid). There may well be evidence somewhere that APM did not win the election, but all I am saying is that I have not seen such evidence. In my mind, no one has provided alternative vote counts that show another presidential winner other than APM e.g. Chakwera got 50%, Chilima 30%, APM 5%. The courts may well get to that evidence though, but until they do, APM is the president of Malawi (in my mind).
I did not vote this year. Frankly I did not mind who would win the elections – for me, this year there was nothing to motivate me to go and vote. I did, though, at certain times think that a change would perhaps be a good idea and that perhaps an MCP win would be healthy for democracy in Malawi since it is often good to have at least two strong parties in a country that can wrestle power from each other e.g. as is the case in the UK, USA. However, I now believe that I would NEVER vote for MCP with Chakwera as a leader based on his actions and utterances during and after the latest elections.
I think most DPP guru are damn and idiots, I wonder if they honestly passed exams or they used Likasa as it is popularly known. their thinking leave a lot to be desired.

It does matter if all Malawians foolishly agrees on something which is wrong, that does not make right.
