Teacher Mpamile wows Malawi audience : ‘Where is Jane Ansah?’

Ugandan comedian Herbert Mendo Ssegujja, popularly known by his standup comedy impressionisy name Teacher Mpamire, wowed Blantyre fans  during his three shows in the country  when he mocked Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson  Jane Ansah as a student absent from his tradition classroom based stand-up comedy.

Teacher Mpamile brought laughter to Blantyre

The 36 year old Teacher Mpamile weighed in on Malawi’s post-election situation, saying: “Before we start the class, may I please see the following? Where is Jane Ansah? She doesn’t want to answer?”

She  went ahead to wonder why his female students are applying white correctional fluid Tippex instead of lipstick.

Said Mpamire:“Tippex is confusing Malawians and Malawians are confusing Tippex. But the question is ‘What went wrong?’”

He said some women would start using Tippex for makeup.

Apparently, Tippex has become popular  catchphrase in Malawi as its use has sparked public outrage as  as applied in results sheets of the May 21 Tripartte Elections that allegedly helped electoral fraud to the advantage  of  eventual winners the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Teacher Mpamile, popular over his mockery and mimicking to Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni started his countrywide tour on Friday evening in the country’s northern city with an impressive performance at the Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel. On Saturday he performed at Lilongwe Hotel.

He is one of Africa’s popular comedians hugely followed on YouTube.

During both shows, it was evident that the Ugandan took his time to study and appreciate the country’s prevailing political developments as he had a field day joking about the apparent political stalemate that has followed the May 21 polls.

Mimicking a teacher in a classroom, with the audience as his students, he centred his jokes on issues such as religion, love, politics, governance, human rights, corruption, education and the arts.

The comedian last performed in Malawi two years ago when he starred alongside her compatriot Anne Kansiime in Blantyre.

Mpamile, who is a high school teacher, was in 2016 named discovery of the year at the African Youth Awards held in Ghana. He is a holder of a bachelor of arts degree and also studied drama at Makerere University in Uganda.
