Chakwera to address nation after scrutiny of K6.2bn reports on Covid funds: State House calls for calm
State House is calling for calm as the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 is scrutinising reports from various clusters on how K6.2 billion Covid-19 response funds allocated to them last August has been used.

In a statement released Wednesday, Press Secretary Brian Banda says also calls on people to be “vigilant” on how government is using Covid-19 money.
This follows President Lazarus Chakwera’s directive that controlling officers and heads of departments should detail how their clusters spent the funds following public outcry.
The President warned that ‘heads will roll’ if the findings indicate abuse of funds.
The funds were released last year to help in running various activities to fight the pandemic in the country.
“The President is pleased that the meeting, which he had directed to take place within 48 hours, took place at the 42 hour mark at 2pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, with the heads of all 13 clusters present with their expense reports.
“Now that the reports have been duly submitted to the President’s Taskforce on COVID-19, the Taskforce is scrutinizing each report line by line and interrogating the head of each cluster in order to ascertain apparent irregularities,” reads the statement in part.
The statement also says once the President and his Taskforce are done scrutinising the submitted reports, Chakwera will address the nation regarding his determination on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Malawi leader calls on all Malawians to remain vigilant on this matter until all the funds are accounted for and any abusers thereof are held accountable.
Here we need Audit report not your cooked up report, have u done Audit at your school level Mr Brian that can help u to scrutinise what u have been given by the heads of clusters?????
We don’t need politicians report but we need Audit report, audited by professionals and qualified Auditors, that’s all we need.
Am starting to doubt your IQ Mr President.
Koma Brian yo mulibemo?
People are failing to understand.Joice Banda former President’son.Kukafera Ku stadium chifukwa chosowa oxgen??? Zoona.Vindalama vonsevi.
Mr. Talk Talk Lazarus chabwera kumanda Chakwerasaulosi. Kwa “ Ntere” and clueless leader pa Malawi pano. He is cooking lies to feed millions of poor Malawians.
Tu kagwere uko mbatata iwe
Please do not let the cadets left by APM ruin this government. Those who want to apppease their previous pay master must leave and join him in Mangochi where he is. Let Malawi proceed with development and sabotage will not be tolerated. Politicians come and go and civil servants will still be there. The problem was that dpp brought cadets into the system. Take them out if they are not performing to standards.
Next time Mr President osadikila anthu abe kaye nde nkuyamba kufufuza ai tele..ikani ma controls onse oyenela and processes that must be followed when dealing with public money on mavuto amenewa. Disasters are the best opportunities of anthu ammbomba when it comes to theft.

So now the Presidential task force has become an auditor of government spending? This is baloney
Taking Malawians for granted. Using the same DPP style. Mudzatifuna paja anzanu aja nawonso ankatero

Banana president in Banana Republic, shame!

The problem of all this is that cadets are still in govt systems and the only solution to this is to clean them out. You don’t work alongside your enemies that foolishness.
Very promising development if we are to get rid of the stench of corruption that has enveloped the entire country to the point when making a budget for anything, one has to include a budget for bribes as well.
If only the President would move with such speed on holding Jane Ansah, Alfundika, and his ghost users accountable for the rigged election, funds, and time lost for the country. Sadly, the President seems either unwilling or completely clueless on how to handle this issue.
MEC Chair Judge Kachale should have ordered an internal audit of what actually happened, so as started repairing the credibility of MEC. This is basic Management 101.
“Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it”
I sincerely hope this is not true, but I got a report that some people have resulted in bribing nurses and other healthcare officials just to attend to their loved ones in hospitals.
Akulu mulindi mavuto ambiri mec ma nurse mkati. Mesa the same mec ushered the current government???
No chief. The nurse thing was just something I was told, but it shows how almost every facet of life has been affected by corruption. I hope its not true.
This is truly a welcoming development Mr President! But don’t be to soft and to slow! Even a minister have to know, for what he got paid ! And their are also other issues pending to deal with, in head rolling manner! l talk about homeland security and and MPS! Or do we need again MDF to control our country!
Please lead the nation and STOP talking. More action less words.
“The North Remembers”
Health workers are being told that the AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the UK government can’t be given to them because it is out of date! Really? Or is it just MoH officials wanting to sell the vaccine privately? Who knows!
calm when people are dying are you serious. Did you even see the CNN feature on Queens. Only 3 Drs in the covid wards because the rest of the 5 Drs are sick. No ventilators at all and you are asking people to be patient. You are out of your mind. How about sending those at DODMA to those wards to work for a week.
The problem we have especially with donar funds is that these guys don’t want to hear stories as to how funds were used. They want to see progress on the ground, the BBC video on the Covid ward at Queens hospital doing the rounds just highlighted the extent of the abuse of the funds. It is a shame to see the squalid condition of those wards. We cant even buy these ventilators. How much are they less than $6000. UK poured in money, pvt sector did the same. Malawi government did the same. We are talking about funds in excess of 12 Billion kwacha. Nditu Mmalawi saza theka. Busy stealing while people are left to die. We have been proved that we cannot handle money. Well wishers please dont give these people money. Just buy the necessary equipment and distribute. They are all the same, it doesnt matter whether they are wearing Blue, yellow green black or red.People must not be asked to give an account after a public outcry as the case, it must be a way of doing things. Don’t take things for granted bwana President, otherwise, if there was no public outcry, it could have been business as usual.
I hope there’s still some money left out of the 17 billion kwacha coz I need a VW Golf. It will be nice to drive a Golf.
Next time before addressing us, do your homework about these things..we just need a report basi kuti mwapanga chani.
Money Gone missing next commission of inquiry
Press conference after press conference without substance. This guy is missing the point. People elected him because he promised action. Show action don’t just talk. This is why people are calling him Mr talk talk. Ndipo kodi where is zeze?
Joyce banda presided over cashgate and now is the major partner of tonse alliance. This is just the continuation of her plundering
Osati phimba maso apa. The issue here is not about the K6,2 billion kwacha. We want to know about the K17 billion, the K5,5 billion from UK and all the other monies that that Malawi received for Covid fight. This K6,2 billion is just a tip of the iceberg. There is more. Dont rush this matter, we want to know how much IN TOTAL has been given or donated and how it has/was/is/going to be spent.
We are tired of being vigilant when what we hear everyday is songs from you and your team, investigations upon investigations but no tangible results, report on albino killings, report on Nsundwe rape and now this? what type of leadership is this? tingoti kwantele basi naga n’kutinji
Are issues of Albino killings, Msundwe rapes associated with the current administration? Admitted all these are government’s responsibility but we must be fair as to when they started.
They promised they will speed up all the processes that were dragging on these and some other issues hence the appointment of Kainja as IG in a parliamentary speedy confirmation. 7 months gone.
