Chakwera to address nation after scrutiny of K6.2bn reports on Covid funds: State House calls for calm

State House is calling for calm as  the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19  is scrutinising reports from various clusters on how  K6.2 billion Covid-19 response funds allocated to them last August has been used.

Presidential press secretary Brian Banda was director of the event

In a statement released Wednesday, Press Secretary Brian Banda says also calls on people to be “vigilant” on how government is using Covid-19 money.

This follows President Lazarus Chakwera’s directive that controlling officers and heads of departments should detail how their clusters spent the funds following public outcry.

The President warned that ‘heads will roll’ if the findings indicate abuse of funds.

The funds were released last year to help in running various activities to fight the pandemic in the country.

“The President is pleased that the meeting, which he had directed to take place within 48 hours, took place at the 42 hour mark at 2pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, with the heads of all 13 clusters present with their expense reports.

“Now that the reports have been duly submitted to the President’s Taskforce on COVID-19, the Taskforce is scrutinizing each report line by line and interrogating the head of each cluster in order to ascertain apparent irregularities,” reads the statement in part.

The statement also says once the President and his Taskforce are done scrutinising the submitted reports, Chakwera will address the nation regarding his determination on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Malawi leader calls on all Malawians to remain vigilant on this matter until all the funds are accounted for and any abusers thereof are held accountable.

Here we need Audit report not your cooked up report, have u done Audit at your school level Mr Brian that can help u to scrutinise what u have been given by the heads of clusters?????

We don’t need politicians report but we need Audit report, audited by professionals and qualified Auditors, that’s all we need.

Am starting to doubt your IQ Mr President.

Please do not let the cadets left by APM ruin this government. Those who want to apppease their previous pay master must leave and join him in Mangochi where he is. Let Malawi proceed with development and sabotage will not be tolerated. Politicians come and go and civil servants will still be there. The problem was that dpp brought cadets into the system. Take them out if they are not performing to standards.
