Malawi Congress Party (MCP) political wing at Chancellor College will on Friday hold elections to usher new people in various positions ahead of 2019 general elections.
Some of the positions expected to be filled are the position of President, Vice president, Publicity Secretary, Secretary General, Campaign Director, Legal advisor, Vice Legal advisor and treasure among others.
Speaking in an interview the outgoing vice president Beatrice Chitimbe said all the preparations are done and people should expect peaceful and fair elections as all the aspiring leaders have met all the requirements.
Chitimbe said she is expecting the best from new leaders saying all the 26 contestants have been dedicated members of MCP wing and positively contributed to some developments within and outside the campus.
“We expect a lot from new leaders to be elected as we are aware that this year is a crucial year, we want to sell our party more, we want Chanco MCP wing to have influence not only on campus and eastern region but the whole nation”, she said
She is optimistic that MCP will make it into government come 2019 describing it as the only party keeping developmental keys of the country.
“Yes MCP will surely make it. The party despite some minor conflicts is so strong now than before because a higher percentage of it consists of new blood.
“It is the only party that does not belong to a particular tribe, talk about different developmental activities it covers the whole country and it is the only party that holds the future of the country than other parties that come into Politics just to plunder resources and not for the welfare of the people”, she added
In preparations for the elections all the contestants sold their manifestos during the debate organized by the outgoing executive on Tuesday night at Chancellor College Campus.
One of the contestants Emmanuel Mwanyongo who is vying for presidency said once ushered into power the only big mission for the wing will be promoting ideologies of the party and ‘Make Lazarus Chakwera President’ of the country.
Trading as Yongo Wa Yongo, Mwanyongo said at the moment Malawi needs leaders who would focus on building the country not fighting political battles.
“Well, 2018 being a campaign year, we have one big mission ahead. That is to MCP, in other words ‘Make Chakwera President’.
“Overall, I want to lead the wing into becoming a leadership training hub for Chanco students. It’s high time the youth were taken seriously. We refuse to be useless cadets that paint themselves and dance stupidly at party rallies just for little money to buy Midori. Dr Chakwera says ‘Nothing for us, without us”.so we are fully getting involved this year going forward and make sure that MCP brings back the lost glory of this country”, he said
He added “the youth are not leaders of tomorrow, but today. As my slogan goes “Moving forward together-the future is finally here”.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
