Chikhwawa Utd knocks out Eagles,as Civo, Epac fall in Presidential Cup

As the battle rages on in the prestigious  Presidential Cup, one Super League giant from the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe, Blue Eagles was shown an exit door after  been beaten 1-0 to little known Chinkhwawa United at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.

The Cops were beaming with confidence on their way to the Lower Shire basing on the fact that Chinkhwawa United is not a known side.

However, it was Pilirani Katale, who inflicted pain to the Eagles after notching in an important goal which led his side to progress through to another round.

Post-match comments

Chinkhwawa United coach, Dave Mpesi – known for coach small teams which emerged as giant killers –  was delighted with the outcome of the game describing it as a gift to the people from the lower Shire.

“I am so happy for booting out Blue Eagles. We played well and nobody can dispute that we deserved to progress,” said Mpesi, who vowed to take his side all the way to the finals.

Blue Eagles mentor, Decleck Nsakakuwona , conceded the defeat , saying : “That’s football, our friends utilised their chances but  our focus now will be on the Standard Bank Cup and the
Super League.”

Giants sent packing

Civo United were also sent packing in the Presidential Cup when they were clipped 2-0
by  Red Lions at their own back yard.

The solider from the  old capital city of Malawi, Zomba, and s scored their two goals through
Benjamin Kalua and Daniel Katunga.

Civo United coach, ‘Sir’ Alex Masanajala described the result as disappointing.

“It is very sad to lose at home, but we were outplayed and our colleagues deserved to win,” said Masanjala, while his counterpart for Red Lions, Collins Nkuna praised his boys for hard
working.

In Mzuzu, Escom United sailed  through to another round after a 2-0 victory to Green Eagles while Azam Tigers were ousted by Moyale Barracks with a 1-0 margin.

In Chitowe, Mafco FC was on cloud nine after a 2-0 victory in the hands of visiting Blantyre Unite with goals from Captain Zasher Nong’oneza and Osward Nkagura.

In Blantyre, Bvumbwe Research hammered Epac FC 4-1 courtesy of man of the moment Vincent Chinthenga and Mayeso Mphanje with a brace each.

However, the main battle is on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium, when Big Bullets face Silver Strikers.
