Chikwawa man fined for killing a game animal

The Chikwawa Second Grade Magistrate court has fined Paul Davie aged 21, a sum of MK105,000.00 in default to be jailed 43 months imprisonment with hard labor after being found guilty of game offences.

Davie was arrested on 17th of February 2017 at about 16:00 hours at Majete Game Reserve after he was caught by game rangers who were on patrol.

He had set a Jinn trap which trapped a bushbuck, and was apprehended when when he had comeback to inspect his trap.

He was charged with three counts of illegal entry into protected area without permit, use of device fixed to the ground capable of killing any protected species, and killing a protected wild animal species.

Davie appeared before Chikwawa Second Grade Magistrate court on 20th of February and was convicted after pleading guilty.

Second Grade Magistrate Zebron, concurred with the State that the convict should be given a stiff punishment to deter the would be offenders.

The magistrate, therefore, ordered Davie to pay a fine of MK35,000.00 for the first count, MK30,000.00 for the second count and MK40,000.00 for the third count in default serve jail term.

Paul Davie hails from Zibala village in Traditional Authority Chapananga in the district.
