Demand for DPP’s SG to apologise for reckless remarks on North Malawi: Synod wants Jeffrey to explain in court

People  of the northern region of Malawi have asked the Secretary General for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Gridezer Jeffrey wa Jeffrey to apologize over  reckless remarks she made that the north like the center will never rule the country.

Jefferey wa Jeffrey: DPP secretary general in tribal slurs

On Saturday during a political rally held at Karonga freedom park, the DPP SG said northern region will not produce the country’s President and that they will remain hand clappers for a leader from the South.

However, people from the north have described this as an insult and are demanding the Jeffrey to be on her knees to say ‘sorry.’

Speaking in an interview, fearless youth activist Steven Simsokwe said they cannot allow to be victimized with such kind of tribal statements.

“The former  Agriculture Minister Dr George Chaponda also said the same remarks. It means the DPP regard us useless and a dumping area, thus why they want dump the refugees here,” Simsokwe said.

According to Simsokwe, he has already started mobilizing the youths across the region to hold protest against the DPP SG for her remarks.

He said they will go to the street if Jeffrey decided to remain quite on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Synod of Livingstonia through Church and Society has disclosed its plan of taking Jeffrey to court especially if she failed to apologize.

Speaking to the media, Moses Mkandawire said the DPP SG will explain what she meant in the court of law.

Some quarters in the social media are demanding President Peter Mutharika who is the leader of the party to fire the SG.

Jeffrey made the remarks when she also attacked Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Frank Mwenifumbo and the leadership of Alliance for Democracy (Aford) declaring that they will never rule the country till eternity.

“I have touched base with many districts in the Northern Region and observed that people from the region are not interested in a leader presently but development. Why should somebody waste his time to join Aford and promise to win support for the entire North?

“I don’t see any politician in Aford that can convince Northerners to have a candidate and win in elections. There is no longer politics in the region but development under DPP administration,” Jeffrey said.

Mwenifumbo reacted by accusing the DPP of promoting politics of regionalism, a development he said negatively affects development in the country.

“Her remarks are very unfortunate. I am happy her remarks have revealed what DPP is all about. This is the third time a senior member of DPP has uttered nepotistic, tribalistic, regionalistic remarks referring the people from the North as failures. Who is she to condemn us?” Mwenifumbo queried.

Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) Secretary Martin Chiphwanya has since condemned DPP secretary general’s “careless sentiments”.

“Malawi belongs to all of us and no particular grouping should be looked down upon,” Chiphwanya said.

In parliament, Leader of Opposition Lazarus Chakwera also demanded Jeffrey’s apology for her  remarks which he said promote tribalism, nepotism and regionalism.

Chakwera said declaring that the north will never  produce a State President is “unfortunate words”.

Speaker of Parliament also cautioned against politics of regionalism.

And the revered chief Kyungu is very happy with these remarks from a dunderhead DPP SG, Gridezer…what a name & shame!!! The remarks were made right under the nose of Chief Kyungu in his own district and he decides to remain silent. Shame!
