Pastor Anold Juma belonging to the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church whose founder and leader is Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is nursing heavy wounds after being attacked by people believed to becadres of the ruling Democrcat Progressive Party (DPP) known as the youth cadets.
According to information at hand, the pastor was coming from church for a midweek service. The church is located in Limbe at Angelo Goveya while his house is few minutes walk from the church.
It is believed that the man of God’s assailants attended the service and waited when the pastor set off for his home to finish him off.
“This was an assignment to kill. They did not steal anything from him, but beat him off mercilessly and dumped him on the road to die,” explained a resident of Manje township who saw the man after his beating.
The pastor was treated at Queens Hospital and he still has to go through a series of operations.
Pastor Juma was one of the pastors that hosted Prophet Bushiri at the same church he was ministering before his fate.
Speaking to Nyasa Times, ECG’s Public Relations Officer Kelvin Sulugwe confirmed hearing the news of the attack but refused to take more questions.
“I was called in the morning about the unfortunate incident that has happened to Pastor Juma and another pastor in Mzuzu was chased on his car by unknown thugs but they dint get him. As for The pastor in Blantyre, I have facilitated his immediate removal from the government hospital. We are making plans to fly him to South Africa where he will be treated.
“As a church, we do not point a finger at anyone, things like these happen. We just thank God for sparing his life. He will survive and he will live,” said Sulugwe.
Few months ago, thugs believed to be DPP mercenaries also attacked ECG gathering in Lilongwe where they destroyed the altar.
Prophet Bushiri is in Malawi and his coming to home country has not been viewed with open arms by government who have frustrated him like a criminal.
Recently, the man of God pleaded to the President to among others, give him authority to visit his old school and be allowed to use the roads of Malawi.
DPP regional governor for the South, Charles Mchacha laughed off when asked about the link of cadets to the assualt of the pastor.
“Who said they are DPP Youth Cadets? Did they wear DPP t-shirts?” asked Mchacha.
