DPP form task force against MCP-bound Mia: Fears he can significantly change political course of Malawi

As  political parties have started rebuilding to increase their chances of winning the 2019 polls, the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held a meeting in Blantyre for its members of the stronghold Southern Region to discuss how they can tame Lower Shire political mugwump Sidik Mia  who is linked with a move to join Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Mia : Linked with MCP

MCP is the largest opposition party in Malawi and its president Lazarous Chakwera is the leader of the opposition in the August House.

The party has unshakable political base  in the central region but unpopular in the South, the bedrock of DPP.

But it is fevered that if Mia joins MCP,  the opposition party will gain a political capital as the wealthy businessman and former ministers is capable of calling for a sea change in political action.

In a DPP regional conference held at Blantyre City Council on Tuesday which wa schaired by party director of campaign Kondwani Nankhumwa, the party members led by regional governor Charles Mchacha, the ruling party agreed to go flat out in stopping Mia from turning Lower Shire  and entire South into a possible MCP domain.

Sources that were at the meeting told Nyasa Times that Mchacha warned DPP leaders the influence  of Mia can never be underestimated and that if he eventually joins MCP, he has

a chance of resurrening his political fortunes that can also benefit Chakwera.

“Mia has established support base, we should not underestimate him,” Mchacha told the conference.

DPP has since formed a task force to organise  political rallies in the Lower Shire as strategy to strengthen DPP ahead of Mia’s possible joining MCP.

However, DPP administrative secreyary  Francis Mphepo said the party is not shaken with Mia, saying his support is “perceived and a matter of conjecture.”

But MCP deputy secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka  said Mia would be welcomed in the party , saying he is a beautiful political prospect who can change significantly the political course of the country.

  1. Mchacha is absolutely right DPP can only underestimate Mia at their own peril. After the demise of Gwanda, Mia is the only guru who is left in the lower Shire. It will be interesting cos then it will be a closely contested election.

  2. Am not agreeing with DPP fear of Mia but the fact is this DPP has not perform to is expectations due to several factors man made and uncontrolled situations. Now they feel Mia will take advantage on that and turn south to MCP. My own opinion Mia can not get votes in South and Muslim community, 1. Mia is a true Muslim and follows is doctrine well and receive funding from Middle East but In Muslim circle they trust Muluzi than Mia, So Muslim will support Muluzi than Mia in short Mia alibe chikoka although Ali ndi ma hand outs ambirimbiri. Second in South people can not vote for MCP for reasons that during one party system people from South suffered a lot and Kuchita kuyika dam la ng’ona ku Southern Region, If it was for the whole Malawi why not erect it in Central Region? Dam la ng’ona is hurting MCP, khanza za Asilikali anu aja, kulanda azikazi a wanthu, list is endless. So south can not vote after this memories, And wakwathu syndrome South will opt Their fell south. In conclusion DPP should not afraid Mia but itself, DPP go back to your drawing board and have sober sole searching.

    1. Iwe President of United for Purpose Party you are still living in the past. Surely you have the audacity to say that Mia is not a threat? You must be joking big time. Just wait and see what will happen in the so called DPP stronghold when Mia eventually joins the dreaded mighty MCP. You will regret the day you were born. If it is indeed true that Mia has decided to join this mother of all parties in Malawi, I bet you, the whole lower shire & almost the entire eastern region as well as some parts of Blantyre will be branded & tatooed with The Black Cock (Tambala Wakuda). Ignore the threat by Mia’s political comeback at your own peril. Mark my words and start living in the present for the good future.

  3. Just look at a DPP supporter? Is he a happy person? Mantha ali thoo!! Kaya akuopa chani?

  4. Kwa mcp members sikulowa mia yekha kungapangitse mcp kuwina komanso kutseketsa maboo wobera mavoti. Dpp together with all running parties in SADC amaba zedi. Chonde dziwani izi ku malawi ambiri ndi a opposition ndipo amawina koma chifukwa chakubera zimakanika. China gvt musamale nawo, election international observers too musamalenso coz amaona kuti abera koma saika comments.

  5. As mcp supporters, let’s ask Mr Richard msowoya to love the people of Malawi whom he represents to humbly allow chakwera have Mia as VP. Mia is definitely going to destroy dpp in the south hence Malawians will be free from this bondage. Chakwera is not stupid to scout for Mia coz he loves Malawians. He wants us to be free from these thieves, killers among other things. So Jessie kabwira, love the salima people you represent, stop getting money from dpp to destroy Mcp .don’t do what Judas Iscariot did by loving money coz you’ll use this money to buy your gardens acre. It’s simple formula to have Mia n get some votes from the south and put them together and show dpp an exit door. Love Malawians you people in mcp, you’re the only hope for Malawians. Are you happy when you see people dying mysterious deaths, dying of poverty because they can’t afford buying medicine. Some people will say umphawi sumapha who cheated you this, when you see a cabinet minister being rushed to South Africa for good medical attention while you and me perish in underfunded hospitals?Lastly nyasatimes can you put this plea in your news so that people should read please naweya mwe

    1. Iwe Saulos, it’s the party convention that elects a party Vice President. Chakwera cannot make a unilateral decision to elect his second in command in the party ranks & file. Big up!! Also don’t forget that the Constitution of The Republic of Malawi has a provision for the offices of 1st & 2nd Vice President. Who knows the two (Mia & Msowoya) would be marked for these positions? Wake up and stop sowing seeds of division in the MCP and Malawi as a whole. Hon. Richard Msowoya (The Speaker of Malawi Parliament) already loves Malawi, therefore don’t coax him to start hating his beloved nation just because another bonafide citizen of Malawi in the name Sidik Mia is reportedly intending to join the mother of all parties in Malawi. The two together with Chakwera and their followers have a common goal….to lead the Malawi nation to A better & properous Malawi. It is possible. Enough is Enough!!!!

  6. BINGU showed people kuti..It is possible to do ddevelopment in short time not thirty years. That is why he left undeletable loyalty to DPP in all regions of Malawi…keep trying but the mighty blue side of life will show u blues

  7. Where do u think Eastern Region People (where 60 percent is indigenous Yaos and 40 percent Lhomwe) will place their loyalty to between Atu/Chair and Mia. If u get the answer right then u know…. The reality….kkkkk

  8. DPP WON THE ELECTIONS IN LOWER SHIRE WITH MIA IN UDF. WON WITH LANDSLIDE. WHAT MAKES U THINK MIA WILL RAKE THE VOTES NOW? Keep dreaming….DPP is in each ward in Malawi… It is loved by loyal supporters. Not fake nomads…underrate DPP at ur own peril…

  9. Malawians, don’t play in the jaws of death. Our grandparents sacrificed a great deal to liberate this country from colonial bondange.Fellow Malawians are you serious that you want to elevate a descendant of the Arabs to the post of VP? Arabs are the most cruel people on Earth. They introduced slave trade in Malawi- inflicting untold sufferings on our forefathers.

Muluya akadzatenga boma adzakuyesani ndani inu the indigenous people of this country?

  10. tikufuna chitukuko
    munalonjeza chija
    osati mbwerera zanuzo
    monga anzathu a kumpoto nafenso
    ndife okwiya ndi maboza
    anuwo !

  11. We red the dismissal by the usual vocal DPP idiots about the MIA factor in one of the dairies and a commentators said ‘ignore him at your own peril’. Now the DPP is shivering for fear of MIA shaking up the south. I want to say what DPP should be fearing now are the effects of corrupt smell which is all over the party, the nepotism, the regionalism which have been clear even to children not in the voting age. This will hammer DPP big time.

  12. Great DPP paulendo. This is a sign of dpp downfall Mia takes over South. He will be the next Malawi leader after Lazarus Chakwera.

  13. Well come Mia in MCP , DPP iwoneseni njira asamatengere athu kuntoso TILI PA MBUYO PA DR RAZAROUS CHAKWERA PAMBUYO PA SIDIC MIA MCP BOMA. AMALAWI TIYENI TICHOSE MBAVA ZA DPP KKKKKKKKKKKK WINA AMWA TAMEKI 2019 MCP WOYEEEEEEEEE.

  14. Wow… fakafaka Mbuya Mia… Ife kwathu nkhudikiraba kwake kuti pyinaenda bwanji pwithupi..

Wow.. Cant wait to witness another political episode… Hands crossed!!!

    1. The joining of hon Mia to MCP it will shaken the southern and eastern region political landscape this is a fact . If MCP leadership takes this marriage seriously this will be their chance to rise to the high tables lets wait and seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
