DPP MP gets 90-day suspension for beating Malawi Parliament staff

Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya has announced that ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Blantyre City Centre Themba Mkandawire has been suspended for 90 days for beating up a Parliament secretariat staff member.

Mkandawire is said to have beaten up an unidentified staffer on Tuesday over disagreements that arose when the victim was distributing calendars to parliamentarians.

“He will serve a 90-day suspension,” announced the Speaker in Parliament y, deploring the conduct of the MP as unparliamentarily and unacceptable.

Mkandawire will miss all Parliament engagements including committee meetings for three months.

Parliament has since adjourned after completing its four-week programme which saw several bills being passed.

The judgement is very very unfair to the poor member of staff.Themba is supposed to go to jjail.Offences of this nature if commited against fellow MP in the heat of Debate the MP is supposed to be suspended as the case was with Annita Kalinde vs Sangala but if its against somebody who is not an MP then its supposed to become a court case.Immunity is tgere when somebody has committed a civil case and not A Criminal case.
