DPP MP under fire for abusing constituency fund

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mangochi Malombe, Romeo Brown Bwanali has had his brains turned upside down as he is buying a Public Address system using constituency development fund.

Since he knows that it is wrong to do so, the MP is threatening to influence the transfer of the District Commissioner for Mangochi who is against the MP’s plan.

A source at Mangochi District Council said the MP is forcing the DC to speed up the process of buying the PA system.

“He wants to use the PA system for his own programmes. Many officials at the district council and even his own members of the constituency committee are against the purchase of the PA system because it will not benefit the people,” said Nyasa Times source.

One of the chiefs in the district described the MP’s insistence to buy a PA system as being insensitive to the needs of the people in the constituency.

Said the chief, “The constituency needs good roads, water and better schools. It is unwise to spend CDF on useless things like PA system when life in the constituency is miserable. Schools are distant and in poor conditions. Some people drink dirty water in swamps.”

A member of the constituency committee who refused to be named said the MP was not listening to the opposition from the other members not to buy the PA system.

“We look to the DC to be strong on this. The DC must not allow him to spend the CDF on that useless thing,” said the member.

Bwanali’s phone could not be reached for three days when Nyasa Times called him.
