MSCE results out, mist over University selection

The 2011 Malawi Schools Certificate of Examinations (MSCE) results have been released showing and increased pass rate by one percent.

Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) said out of 102,691 candidates who sat for the examinations, 56, 273 candidates have attained full MSCE certificate representing a 54.8 percent an improvement from 53.3 percent last year.

Internal candidates registered a 58 percent pass rate with 39, 128 passing from the 67, 974 that sat for the examinations.

Malunga: Delay in selection

While 8, 981 external candidates made it from 18, 115 that sat for the examinations, representing a 50 percent pass rate.

However, the results comes at a time when there are reports that University of Malawi to exclude Chancellor College from this year’s selection because of the academic freedom impasse which has seen the college closed and the first year students only had one semester.

University registrar Benedict Wokomaatani Malunga said they have not yet made a final decision on first-year intake but conceded that the standoff “will delay the selection and academic year.”
