DPP Running Mate Jane Ansah Storms Ntcheu, Vows Free Education and K5 Billion Constituency Fund

Justice Dr. Jane Ansah, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential running mate, has electrified her home turf of Ntcheu North West, unveiling an ambitious package of reforms and development pledges as she rolled out the party’s manifesto at Kanyimbo Primary School.

Ansah, who is simultaneously contesting as Member of Parliament for the constituency, declared that a DPP government under Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika would abolish school and examination fees, expand youth and women’s empowerment programmes, and inject unprecedented resources into grassroots development.

Among the headline promises were:

  • Abolition of school and examination fees to ease the burden on struggling families.
  • K100 million revolving fund for women entrepreneurs.
  • K100 million youth entrepreneurship fund to boost innovation and start-ups.
  • K5 billion annual Constituency Development Fund, managed directly by local committees to ensure transparency and community-led development.

“I am standing to serve you—the people of Ntcheu North West. Our future depends on development that reflects your voices, not distant offices in Lilongwe,” declared Ansah to thunderous applause.

The former Supreme Court judge, who famously presided over the 2019 election case, brushed aside concerns about her dual role as MP candidate and vice-presidential hopeful. “Leadership is about responsibility. I am fully committed to both my constituency and my country,” she asserted.

Her whistle-stop campaign tour, which began at Tsangano Trading Centre, has already drawn large crowds and will stretch across villages and trading centres in Ntcheu. Party strategists see Ansah’s grassroots charm and legal pedigree as a powerful complement to Mutharika’s leadership credentials, especially as the DPP seeks to claw back support ahead of the September general elections.

For supporters in Ntcheu, the promises sounded like a lifeline. For the DPP, Ansah’s energetic constituency conquest may well be the spark that revives its national comeback bid.
