The Association of Draughts in Malawi (ADMA) has announced that it will hold its much awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) and national tournament on the weekend of March 24-25 2018 at Sibweni Park in Chilomoni township, Blantyre.
Among other things which are expected to be tackled during the AGM is the review of how the association has run the sport for the past three years, presentation of financial report while the final agenda will be electing its new officer bearers in various positions.
During elections candidates are expected to compete in the positions of the president and vice, treasure and general secretary which will also have their vice as well as four committee members of the association.
ADMA president Misheck Munthali who has been serving the position for four consecutive terms and seeks for a re-election confirmed to Nyasa Times that everything is set for the AGM and tournament and has also encouraged all draughts followers to come in large number and be part of the meeting.
“Interested candidates have presented their names we are just waiting for the date. But as usual we expect to have a free and fair election,” said Munthali.
He further added that before the AGM there will be a national tournament for draughts which will bring together a total 30 players from all the three regions whose aim is to select 13 national team players who will represent Malawi in the 2018 African Draughts Championship.
“The tournament will take two days from March 24 and will be finished on the following day. Immediately after the tournament it’s when the AGM will start,” added Munthali.
