‘Edgar ndi Davis’ hint at Giddes Chalamanda’s retirement
The acoustic duo of Edgar Kachere and Davis Njobvu popularly known as “Anyamata Ozelezeka” and trades under the banner Edgar ndi Davis have hinted on processing the retirement of veteran acoustic music father in Malawi Giddes Chalamanda due to his old age.
Njobvu confirmed the development through the press on Friday 9th January, 2015.
According to Njobvu, if Chalamdanda who turned 84 last year gives a nod to the idea, they will right away start processing for his pension money.
“We are actually toying with the idea of retiring him this year if he agrees… financially it would not be a problem because we would work out a pension for him. That is how much we love him,” said Njobvu while revealing that they wish to first limt Chalamanda’s stage performances.
He hailed Njobvu for his contribution in the music circles as well as teaching the duo a lot of tactics.
“We owe it to Giddes for our success as a group, he has been exceptional during our performances and this is why we will continue working with him. But he is getting old and we will have to slow down on his performances,” said Njobvu.
He further revealed that the group is planning to host special testimonial shows for Chalamanda in the commercial city of Blantyre and the Capital City, Lilongwe.
“We are also planning to have Giddes Chalamanda testimonial shows in Blantyre and Lilongwe this year,” said Njobvu.
He said Malawian music has potential and that it is high time Malawian music start to feature in international shows and festivals and other popular channels like Channel O, MTV Base among others.
Edgar and Davies, you are the Great sons of Malawi. You are trying to do what was supposed to be done by the Government through COSOMA or whichever.Besides,Giddes has enjoyed most local airwaves and perfomances because of you guys.I salute.
