Electricity Supply Commission of Malawi (ESCOM) and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has lost K12 billion in electricity units scam orchestrated by employees of the two run power companies.

The employees are suspected to have defrauded ESCOM over K12 billion by selling prepaid units to companies and individuals through parallel structures.
The spokesperson for ESCOM, Innocent Chitosi has confirmed the development.
Chitosi said the suspected employees started defrauding the entity in 2018.
He added that the employees in question have been selling their monthly un-transferable electricity allocations to different companies.
