Escom units Mpamba promotion period extended

TNM Malawi Limited has extended the window of a promotion which encourages customers to buy Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited units using Mpamba mobile money platform.

Kabwazi: ESCOM has experienced an increase in mobile money transactions

ESCOM Senior Manager for Commercial and Customer Services, Wiseman Kabwazi and Mpamba General Manager, Christopher Sukasuka, separately, said the promotion window was extended from February 15 2021 to April 15 2021.

“ESCOM has experienced an increase in mobile money transactions for purchase of prepayment units. So far, 40 percent of the prepayment units transactions are from mobile money (Airtel and Mpamba),” Kabwazi said.

“The agreement to remove transaction fees by ESCOM and mobile money operators may have contributed to many customers buying units from these two platforms. Customers now get units for the value that they have tendered at any of the two platforms.”

He said buying units using mobile money platforms offers convenience and reduces the risk of Covid-19 as customers do not have to travel long distances to buy Magetsi units since mobile money agents are within walking distances.

Sukasuka touted the success of the promotion whose initial phase ran from December 1 2020 to January 31 2021.

“The promotion went very well as we saw a lot of customers responding by purchasing units via Mpamba. It is because of such a response that we have decided to extend the promotion for an additional two months to allow more customers the chance to win,” he said.

In the promotion, a customer who buys units through Mpamba qualifies for the draw held fortnightly when 40 customers win ESCOM units worth K10,000 each.

The final draw will see Mpamba spoiling four customers with units worth K50,000 and K20,000 to six customers. The draw uses customer meter numbers.

A meter number is eligible to win once every fortnight and thereafter, qualifies for the final and fourth draw.
