Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that it has requested the world football governing body Fifa to conduct interviews for the position of Commercial Director within the month of September.
The position fell vacant after the dismissal of head of marketing Dan Tambala on allegations of misappropriating money for the World Cup ticket sales.
FAM General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the association has shortlisted five of the 18 people who applied.
Nyirenda said Fifa marketing expert would the successful applicant will start work by 1 October.
“We asked Fifa to bring a marketing expert because we don’t want to do things in hurry,” Nyirenda said.
He said the Commercial Director would spearhead the association`s commercialisation drive.
“It is very important to have commercial director in Malawi because we have lot of facilities and marketing issues that needed people to know that’s why we came up with advert,” he said.
He said FAM was losing money because of its failure to enhance marketing.
“We need a drive as we are commercializing our game by taking it to television. A lot of money is being lost because we are not making the best of television rights. We are going full throttle trying to get television station that will assist in marketing our game,” he said.
“We believe that we have done a lot and we believe that this Commercial Director will assist in the commercializing drive to go very far.”
Fam in August recruited Ernest Mtawali as head coach with Burundian Nsazwirwimo Ramadhan as his assistant.
The two were employed on a one-year contract after the dismissal of coach Young Chimodzi and his assistant Jack Chamangwana.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
