First Lady delighted with DPP Blue League: Advises youths to embrace spirit of hard work
First Lady, Madam Dr Gertrude Mutharika has advised the youths in the country to embrace the spirit of hard work in order to help develop the country.
She was speaking in Lilongwe, Saturday when she paid a surprise visit to the professional youth arm of Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Blue League at Mungo Park where the grouping converged for a get together.
Madam Mutharika pointed out that there was no way any country can develop if the youths are left behind.
The First Lady noted that it was pleasing to see young people from the Blue League have shown interest of forming the youth arm of professionals whose aim is to help promote government’s agenda.
“I am happy to be with you and to hear that the aim of this grouping is to promote government’s agenda. It is always pleasing to see young people like you coming together showing interest to participate in the development processes of the country.
“I have brought a message from the President that he is happy to be the Patron of this grouping and he has since promised to work with you in any way,” Madam Mutharika told the gathering.
She pointed out that the DPP government is willing to work with the youths and promote them as evidenced by the programmes which government has lined up aimed at empowering young people in the country.
“We have always heard the President saying he wants to work with the youths in developing the country. This is one move of working together with him. Let us give him all the necessary support as he develops this country,” she said.
National Blue League Chairperson Dumisani Lindani said it was the groupings wish to support the government’s agenda and see the country being transformed for the betterment of Malawians.
“We are meeting to encourage one another that we are the youth arm of the party whose agenda is not just to promote the interests of the party. We have an important role to play in the development of this country by working together with government in all its development agendas.
“We don’t want to be used as a tool for political violence as it is the case with other political parties in the past. Our aim is to take a leading role in developing this country. You can as well see that our grouping is composed of young professionals that are ready to take up the challenge and ensure that we deliver,” he said.
Chief Director of Presidential Initiative on Safe Motherhood, Chimwemwe Chipungu asked the young people in the country to go for HIV testing and urged young ladies to go for cervical cancer screening.
“We cannot talk of participating in developmental activities if we are not healthy people. Our health matters most in the development of the country and that is why I am encouraging you to go for HIV testing and for you young ladies to go for cancer screening,” he advised.
Chipungu added, “Cervical cancer is very common nowadays in the country and it is important that as young people we go for screening so that we plan our future very well knowing our HIV status and cancer results.”
Blue League is a professional youth arm of the DPP comprising of professionals from different fields from across the country.
