Garrulous Chief Lundu calls Goal Malawi organisation ‘stupid’, bans it in Chikwawa
The controversial Chief Lundu, a paramount chief of Chikwawa on Sunday banned one of the leading humanitarian organisations in the country, Goal Malawi to stop operating in his jurisdiction claiming its officials are “stupid” and rude.
Lundu made the remarks during a public rally President Peter Mutharika held at McHale Trading Centre in Chikwawa.
Nyasa Times understands that Goal Malawi is distributing maize to the people affected by hunger in the Lower Shire and Lundu expressed displeasure with the way the grain is being distributed.
Lundu, sounding tipsy, asked Mutharika to replace the organization with World Vision Malawi.
“Goal Malawi is stupid! What is Goal Malawi? Who are they? I don’t want them to work in my area. They are rude, very rude even to chiefs, tchupitii. We want Malawi World Vision back. We have been working with this organization and their officials are good, very good. I have said it.” said Lundu.
Parliament rejected Lundu’s appointment in the board Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) saying he is too political and hardly level headed.
In his speech at the rally, Lundu attacked the opposition for playing primitive politics instead of working together with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP’s) – led government by offering constructive criticism in addressing some of the challenges the country faces.
He said it is a pity that opposition parties are busy castigating government’s developmental efforts without offering alternative measures.
“We are all serving Malawians for our own betterment. It is a sad to see some opposition leaders continue pulling on the opposite direction whenever government does better,” said Lundu.
He added: “Being in the opposition does not mean that we should not give credit whenever it is due. Such an attitude will never propel us forward; it will just ruin our dream and plans to develop this nation.”
The traditional leader, however, commended government for providing the two Shire Valley districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje with various development projects citing education, health, and agriculture and road infrastructure, among others.
In his address, President Mutharika said government was aware of the challenges people in the country were facing and that his government has a number of projects lined up for implementation to address those problems.
He disclosed that anytime soon, Chikwawa will have a referral district hospital.
Mutharika further promised to see to it that no one dies of hunger and that there is constant supply of medical equipment in health facilities.

Most of the times when i’m listening to the statements or arguements that these people we call leaders including the president himself in Malawi make; i wonder if these useless people really deserve to be called ” LEADERS”.
When they decided to run for whatever position they are holding, didn’t they say ” vote for me because I’ve got a solution to the problems you’re facing?” Or did they say ” vote for me so that you or the opposition will help me to sort-out your problems?” Why our so called leaders are so stupid or take us for fools that when they fail, they always throw the blame us or the opposition? And when something good has been achieved even by the help of ordinary citizens; they always take credit and pat themselves on the shoulders? Did you ever hear any president or any politician in a ruling party said ” we and the opposition have developed this country ? No, it’s always my government this and that as if they use money from their pockets. And many Malawians support this stupidity blindly or ignorantly and that’s why leaders take us for fools; tell you what, you shouldn’t praise someone for driving a truck with 30 ton load on its back but rather praise him for giving it a direction because he’s not carrying the load on his shoulders. The only alternative contribution all of us can offer is to work hard for our own success that will translate to the growth of our economy of which many Malawians are hard working already just that the environment is not conducive for nameless Malawians except politicians. Even Lundu himself, does he do anything to develop the country apart from boot-licking politicians and get paid? Do we have road infrastructure in Malawi that a real president can always tout about every time he opens his mouth? Do we have public health system one can be proud of ; what about public transport or bus stations, airports that looks worse than our neighbouring countries’ s taxi ranks which Kamuzu built for a population of 8 million people 35 years ago? What’s the point of building more hospitals when the dirty ones we have don’t even have panado? How many people have access to electricity, clean water, a balanced diet everyday here in Malawi, yet a homeless beggar in the street just 1,500km down south can afford a loaf of bread and fried chicken 3 times a day and a Malawian civil servant can’t afford cassava even once a day; but you stand there and tell the world you developed the country? Malawians and our so called leaders please; let’s admit that leadership keeps failing us and go out of this country and see how we’ve lost respect as nation, so let us not lose the little that is left of us as humans which is diginity by peddling lies.
Mr President clapping hands for the headless chief. A failed chief indeed, it thats the way of solving issues then pipo in his area have no chief. If at all there are issues, one would expect the chief to amicably resolve them and the whole DPP then encourages him.

Lundu is the most backward paramount chief in Malawi. Why can’t you take a leaf from Chiefs Gomani and Mbelwa. Chiefs Lundu and Kyungu are a disgrace to the nation. Fortunately I do not come from areas under their jurisdiction.
