Malawi’s Finance, Economic Planning and Development Minister Goodall Gondwe has allocated K150 million to the Office of the Director of Declaration of Assets which has been dormant since its head was appointed about a month ago.
Initially, Gondwe had not made any provision for Assets Director’s office because a separate vote for the directorate is yet to be created.
The Director of Declaration of Assets could not start executing his expected duties because his office had no funding.
But Gondwe, in his winding-up speech on the motion of the 2014/15 national budget on Wednesday, claimed to allocated extra K150 million to the National Assembly to finance activities of the directorate until the separate vote is created.
The National Assembly vote was, however, deferred during the Commit of Supply section because the vote was “pending negotiations”.
With the K150 million provision, the directorate will start likely start functioning.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
