Heroes Hotel:Sunbird rolls out red carpet for Scorchers
Malawi’s Scorchers are set for luxury treatment after Sunbird Hotels and Resorts stepped in to bag the World Cup-bound heroines free accommodation at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe upon their triumphant return home.

The hotel giant announced it will house the team after a heroes’ welcome following their sensational run to the WAFCON final in Morocco.
Sunbird’s Head of Sales, Marketing and Distribution Temwa Kanjadza said bosses were “delighted” to roll out the red carpet for the squad.
“The team’s performance has made the entire nation proud, and their teamwork has been truly inspiring,” she said.
Kanjadza insisted the gesture was about more than just a comfy bed for the night — vowing to give the girls a stay to remember.
“Our purpose goes beyond providing accommodation and meals but also strives to create a memorable experience,” she added.
FAM chiefs were quick to sing Sunbird’s praises, with Director of Operations Gomezgani Zakazaka hailing the hotel group for backing the team at such a huge moment for Malawian football.
“The gesture demonstrates the important role that corporate Malawi can play in supporting and celebrating national teams that bring pride to the country,” Zakazaka said.
The Scorchers made history by finishing runners-up at the continental showpiece — and booking their ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil in the process.
And this isn’t the first time Sunbird has rolled out the VIP treatment for the girls — the hotel chain also housed the squad after their COSAFA Women’s Championship triumph in South Africa.
