Hygiene Mwandepeka denies seeking Silver exit

Silver Strikers star Hygiene Mwandepeka insists he is happy to stay at the club and fight for a starting berth in the forthcoming season amid rumors of a return to home town club Karonga United.

The highly sort after star found game time hard to come by in his maiden season at the Airtel Top Eight champions after signing from Karonga United  following an impressive individual performance in the TNM Super League in 2016.

Rumors early this month claimed Mwandepeka was seeking an exit from the Bankers in the hunt for regular football with newly promoted Karonga waiting in the wings to snap him up.

However, speaking in an interview with Nyasa Times, Mwandempeka, said he was settled and looking forward to his second season with Silver.

“As a footballer rumors are part and parcel of football we can’t prevent them but I’m really happy at Silver and I’m enjoying my experience at a massive club,” he said.

He added “at a big club like the bankers you can’t play all the time the competition for places is high but I believe in my talent and will work extra harder when pre-season starts to make sure when I’m given a chance to play games I should grasp the opportunity,” said a defiant Mwandepeka.

When pushed on whether he would be open to a return to home town club Karonga United if approached, the over lapping defender, said he would be open to a return one day but not now as life in Lilongwe was more for filling financially and professionally.

“Football is a short career you never know what can happen and at the moment life is more comfortable being at Silver even though I was not playing matches but I’m able to support myself and family something I wasn’t doing in the past. Karonga United made me what I am as a player and my home town club hence I would like to return one day,” he explained.
