Immigration department hit by recruitment scam: Crooks demanding money from job seekers

Officials from Immigration Department say they have launched investigations into how mobile phone numbers of applicants for a job have landed into the hands of some unscrupulous people who are demanding money from the job applicants.

Chauwa: Crook are demanding money from job seekers

Spokesperson for the department Joseph Chauwa said officials suspect some officers are conniving with people from outside the department to fleece unsuspecting job applicants.

“This is baffling indeed and an investigation has been instituted to find out how mobile phone numbers for the job applicants have been leaked out,” he said.

The department wants to recruit 100 immigration assistants.

Chauwa said the crooks are demanding as much as K135000 from the unsuspecting job seekers.

“We want to warn people that they should not pay anything to anyone. Applying for a job in government is free,” he said.

He said if found, all officers found to be conning with outsiders to fleece unsuspecting job seekers of money would face severe disciplinary action.

  1. Where is Malawi going? Information just coming in, St John’s Catholic secondary School of Lilongwe Diocese, is busy soliciting bribes from parents whose wards have selected to start form one at the institution. Parents are very angry ans surprised noting that their children went through all requirements to be selected ( wrote exams on 3rd June, 2017 and paid K11,000 as registration fee). Please Catholic secretariat can you investigate and discipline these staffs accordingly. They are tarnishing the image of the church. Just imaging, they are busy making phone calls demanding K80,000.00 t0 K100,000.00 from parents, this is a day light robbery. Below is the script one of the concerned parents wrote
CORRUPTION WORSENS IN MALAWI, ST JOHN’S CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL STAFF DEMANDS BRIBES FROM PARENTS.
Reliable sources have confirmed to me that some staffs at St John’s Catholic School in area 36 Lilongwe are busy calling parents whose children have been selected to start form one to give them bribes to guarantee their places otherwise they are ready to replace them with others who will offer K80,000.00 to K100,000.00.
Interestingly, the Institution administered examinations on 3rd June, 2017 to select the best out of the group, but now they want money from parents. The question various parents are asking is “why did their siblings sit for exams if form one places are for sale”?
The Catholic Church with the help of other stakeholders needs to investigate this and punished staff concerned accordingly, they are tarnishing the image of the church.
St John’s Catholic Secondary School is under Lilongwe diocese of Roman Catholic.
This news tip is worthy publishing to uncover so many things these evil people are doing in the name of the church.
