JB appoints two more Reserve Bank deputy governors
President Joyce Banda has appointed two more deputy Reserve Bank of Malawi governors with effect from Wednesday.
The two new deputies are Dr. Grant Kabango and another economic expert Dr. Naomi Ngwira. This puts to three the number of deputy bank governors with Mary Nkosi already there.
The announcement was made on state controlled MBC on Wednesday night.
President Banda has such powers in accordance with the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
This means that the bank has Charles Tchuka as the governor and Nkosi deputy governor responsible for operations while Kabango responsible for supervision of financial institutions.
The appointments follow the firing of the governor, a well qualified economist, Dr. Perks Ligoya.
Previous governments did not have three deputies at the central bank.
