Ruth Tembo, originally from Lesotho, died at Medi-Clinic in Lilongwe after a short illness, Nyasa Times understands

Her husband is said to be “very devastated” by her death.

The couple had four children together.

MCP said details of the funeral will come from the family and that the party leader Lazarous Chakwera will rally behind  members to mourn with their former president.

The part officials who spoke to Nyasa Times Monday evening described Ruth Tembo as an “ inspiring person” whom they loved.

“Ruth Tembo was a wonderful woman in every way. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family at this tragic time,” said an aide to Chakwera.

  9. A woman who knew her duties and boundaries. Even thou she was a wife to the top politician, she didnt take that as an advantage to become a vocaller. Ruth was a woman of her own character. Other women whose husbands are politicians must learn from Nyatembo. May she rest in the arms of the angels.

  10. @ Clive (Comment #54)

I have gone through most comments on this story here and yours is the only insensitive comment I have read!! Disgraceful!!

This woman here might have been married to JZU, but she is a mother and grandmother, she has stayed away from active politics or making political speeches from day one that should be applauded. Two wrongs don’t make a right, you don’t repay a wrong by doing the wrong thing yourself. Its a shame that you utter such words at a time like this. Shame on you.

As for the rest of the comments ..mwaonetsa u munthu. This woman deserves respect the way she personally carried herself through the political career of her husband.

Rest in Peace Madam Ruth Tembo, Rest in Peace. Condolences to the Tembo clan!!
