Paramount Chief Gomani IV died in 2009 after he was installed in 2008 when he had retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Malawi Defence Forces.

According to elder brother of the fallen Paramount Chief, “Inkosikulu” President Bingu Wa Mutharika will coronate Mswati Gomani as Mswati Gomani 5 in October 2011 at his headquarters, Nzamani Village in Lizulu, Ntcheu.

Late Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani IV: Annointed Mswati to be heir to the throne

“In accordance with Maseko Ngoni culture and tradition, the mourning period ends when a new King is crowned,” said a statement from the chief tenancy.

“Our father Kanjedza Gomani 4 appointed our young brother Mswati as his successor and He was installed as the Crown Prince on the burial ceremony of our father on 26th September 2009, at Nkosini, in Lizulu.

“The Crown Prince Mswati as was chosen by our Sleeping father Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani 4, and approved by the Gomani Royal family, was thereafter acknowledged by all Maseko none Inkoses and Maseko Ngoni Impi,” according to the statement.

Mswati was born on 4th October 1995 and will be 16 years old in October this year, it was disclosed.

“We felt that this would be the best day for the ceremony.”

The chieftenancy said Mswati will be allowed to continue with his education.

“According to the customs and traditions of Maseko Ngoni cultural system of leadership, the age or school does not prevent a king to be installed since he can continue to go to school after installation.”

However, a traditional Privy Council of senior Indunas of our sleeping father and the leadership of Henry Hastings Gomani, (who is the officially family elected regent for Mswati), will take charge of the day to day affairs of the chieftenancy during his absence.

Mswati is currently studying form 3 at Kamuzu Academy.

Prince Mswati is supposed to spend his school holidays by attending to cultural functions across the Mangoniland. He is also supposed to be spending time with Inkoses during holidays to help him to get used and interact with his future subjects.

Since the death Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani IV, Crown Prince Mswati has not been seen in Ntcheu which is his base.

But the chieftaincy said: “Once he is coronated the prison-like environment surrounding our brother will improve and the Amakosi and the Indunas will effectively take charge of the development of brother as a Maseko Ngoni King something which is not possible at the moment with the ruthlessness of Mrs Rosemary Malinki our aunt.”

Malinki wa acting Gomani.

The family hope that the coronation of Mswati as Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani V will ensure that the line of succession of the Gomani Paramouncy is secured with the Kanjedza Gomani 4 family as the root of the next succession line.
